Where is my new force touch Magic Trackpad? Now, that is something that should be available for sale soon, and hopefully Apple is on top of things.

+1, hopefully they'll give us both at the same time. I'd take a force touch Magic Mouse too while they're at it.

Do you put it on the right or the left side? How do you envision people using it?

Currently I have a mouse on the right and the trackpad on the left (for gestures). A left handed person could easily reverse this arrangement, or if you want to use the trackpad as the primary pointer you could put it on the dominant side. If you build the trackpad into the keyboard you lose this flexibility and gain... what exactly?

This is how I have mine set up too. I suppose one could get one of those little things that clips the trackpad to the side of the wireless keyboard. That way you could have the best of both - a keyboard with an attached trackpad but you can choose which side to put the trackpad on.

    Good catch!

And what a contrast with Macrumors: their discussion thread is seven pages already, without anyone taking notice of the anomaly ...

True...but, but, but how will you access it with the lid closed???

Note my use of the word "docked". External monitor, external keyboard, external trackpad/mouse, etc.

And put a numeric virtual keypad overlay on the trackpad. You press a trackpad/keypad key to toggle the functions back and forth. I could really use something like that for my Mini Mac attached to the TV.

It would be more classy if the numbers were laser engraved onto the trackpad instead of some plastic film.  Possibly even backlit.  Or how about just making the whole thing an LCD screen with optional wristband?

    Forget about the numeric keypad for a minute...just please make sure the new keyboard had all the keys on it first such as;
    Delete
    Home
    End
    Page Up
    Page Down
    Hash
    PrtScrn

Then and only then can you think of putting a numeric keypad on it! :)

It's typical Jonathan Ive IMHO...form over function.

I never realized how different European key layout was.

There's not just one European layout but several according to language and/or country.

French has AZERTY, German, Czech and Slovak have QWERTZ.

The British English keyboard layout is different from the US/International english layout: UK keyboard has pound sign instead of dollar.

There are other Apple keyboards, these are just the ones I'm aware of.

    x6.

    Why? Why? Why, Apple?

Let's face it, it's because they're too up themselves, or more accurately, Ive is too up himself. Apple at their worst.

You're the expert when it comes to people too up themselves.

Backlighting on white keys is not going to be pretty, and that return key is ridiculous. Why would you shrink the most used key to stupid proportions like that?

I need a new key board for one of my older iMacs that has a sticky key so this is good timing. I was thinking of buying one soon so now I'll just wait.
Not "European" but Czech. QWERTY is an English (language) thing. Every language has their own optimized keyboard layout (or two.) Although I'm sure they often have to put up with the widely used/available English language, QWERTY ones (probably shipped by default with American computers for many years.)

In Panama there are some PCs that have latin American keyboards. One notable difference is there is no @ sign for whatever reason. Seems crazy in this world of the email. Most people have the standard US keyboard though.

I have my track pad where the numeric key pad usually is and since I am right handed my mouse is to the right side of that.

Eventually what would be pretty cool is the track pad becomes a full LCD screen where you could have any number of layouts, such as a numeric key pad or shortcut keys that are application specific for FCP X. Sort of like an iPad mini without any bezels hooked up to your Mac. The default could be just like it is today.

Power button will be nice if it works on "docked" (lid-closed) MacBook Pro's.

If the laptop is plugged into power then they can probably leave the wireless components in the laptop powered up. If they did it while the laptop was on battery, it would reduce standby time. I think clamshell mode only works on power anyway so I could see the power button functioning in that mode as long as the keyboard was paired with the machine.

Backlighting always improves visibility against black keys. Against white keys, it sometimes REDUCES visibility.

Yeah they are black letters on white, white letters on white would reduce visibility in lighter environments. Even on the silver keyboards the white backlight sometimes made the keys harder to see. They'd just need to change the brightness threshold it illuminates at so that it only comes on when it's really dark.

A full numpad would be useful but at the very least, they can turn say ZUI (YUI), HJK, VBNM into the numbers by just holding the fn key. It would be easier if they aligned the keys, I don't know why keyboard keys are offset like that. If the shuffled the row with A in it to align with Q and Z to align with S, I don't see how it would affect typing efficiency.

Isn't the whole point of a numpad that you can touch type numbers? I wouldn't think that would be easy on a virtual keyboard.

Originally, the keys were offset to accommodate the linkages between the keys and levers in mechanical typewriters.

Yup. people would be amazed at how much typing is dominated by backwards compatibility with a machine that became obsolete more than 60 years ago.
