No Refurbished Items on Apple Store Page

in General Discussion edited January 2014
I check the Apple Store for the latest list of refurbished products and today, nothing. What's up..does this always occur before MacWorld each year?

that's strange, because i just checked a few days ago and there was a lot of stuff. i was planning on getting a new refurb ipod in the next few days...guess i'll wait until MWNY and see if anything new happens then.

I think the only things I would worry about buying refurbished would be the iPod and the iBook - I'd be so scared that they'd show up covered with small scratches. Especially the iPod - they are just SO delicate...

My guess is that with so much iMac inventory piling up, the last thing they can do is compete with themselves with old hardware. Better to keep it for parts on repairs.

I think the reason you guys don't see any refurb stuff is because the refurb store opens only on wednesdays. That is what I heard and have seen. Tell me if I am wrong though bc the only time I have seen stuff there is on a Wednesday, but I've only been there once. Also, some people prefer buying refurb bc of all the tests the computers have to go through before the company can sell them again. With new products, there aren't as many tests performed on them like the refurbs. So you should actually have less problems buying refurb than buying new.

What is this "refurbished store" I've seen people mention? Isn't the refurbished stuff just on the Special Deals page?

Refurbs are there whenever they're available, not just on a certain day of the week. There were lots until a few days ago; now there are none. Who knows if someone decided to singlehandedly clean out the refurb section of the store, or if Apple decided to "re-appropriate" the goods.

From my personal experience with the iPod, there's no way a refurbished one could be any less problematic or unreliable as the brand new one that I bought. Dead five months out of the box. And in case any of you were wondering why the iPod only has a 90-day warranty...

    Apple sells an iPod: +$399

it breaks 91 days or after purchase: +$256 "repair fee"

sends customer a new iPod: -~$200

fixes problems in old iPod: -~$1-150

sells refurbished iPod on online store: +$299

So they are selling your own old, broken junk back to you. It's ingenious really. Reminds me of Zoolander... "He's so hot right now, he could take a crap, wrap it up in tinfoil, stick a couple of fishhooks on it and sell it to Queen Elizabeth as earrings."

There are still no refurb items in the Apple store 2 weeks later.

Also the warranty on a new iPod is 1 year, it's only 90 days for phone support.

Same warranty on a refurb iPod and they put a new back and battery on a refurb ipod IF you buy it from Apple

You mean ten years and two weeks later. And it looks like there certainly are refurb products, just the sidebar is down for maintenance.
