Apple's "Retail 2.0" to debut tomorrow
Watch for news about the new Roosevelt Field Mall on Long Island in New York. It will be the first of Apple's smaller stores.
- less square footage
- no center spine of software (it will be on the walls)
- smaller Genius bar
- cash registers at the back of the store
- no theatre
This store will be the complete opposite to the new SoHo store in New York City, but made to operate more efficiently and cost less to outfit.

they gotta save some money in other places. I've heard of a report that apple will NEVER make a cent on the soho store. a couple of these are fine, but they shouldn't go overboard.
it'll be nice for apple to have a smaller store that has the potential for nearly as many sales as a normal, larger store (assuming the mall is large as has been claimed) with less costs
these stores are really good (in my opinion), especially in this current crap economy. half normal stores and half small stores would be real good model (but that's just my opinion)
I will be interested to see how the "smaller" store looks.
Seems to me like it should be okay in the long run. It will be cramped on opening day though.
Anybody know what time it is opening??? I'm plaining to go...

The Palisades opening was at 9:30 so I assume that's what time the Roosevelt Field store will open.
If we didn't have to go to the airport to pick up my grandma, I was going to try to get out to Roosevelt Field tomorrow.

SoHo was at 8:00...so I don't think you can rely on any opening .

Because it would be a lot of money for a cab from LaGuardia Airport to Rockland County. Also, my mom would never do that to her mother, cuz as many of you know my mom's a great person.
