It is funny that Daniel has to invent a whole new package of FUD to try to hide his wrong claims of Google ditching Android.

How better would be as a writer if he was not motivated by his hates

Not marked as an Editorial, despite the snark being more prominent than the actual reporting?  Come on Dan, it's possible to relate news without injecting the same old bashing of anything that isn't Apple.
He's back to normal. But if AI is dropping the editorial moniker for his rants then the level of journalism is running the basement. Emotional rants against a competitor is not an inspiring read but will get the clicks required for the advertising revenue.... cynical me ????

Probably didn't pay too much attention to the privacy nightmare that these cheap or free items foist upon the kids though.

    What privacy nightmare?

Ironic that it was GM that began the hybrid revolution, and would do best if it would restart this project.

DED didn't know about the EV1?

Actually, GM was very adverse to hybrids and EV's, they thought fuel cells would be the winner, but the U.S. Government was providing grants, and the State of California was pushing hard for low emission fuel efficient vehicles. Funny how that has panned out; California will likely be one of the big winners in EV vehicle development and manufacturing in the U.S.

It was Toyota that saw what was going on in the U.S., hit the panic button and developed the Prius, not realizing that U.S. Automakers really weren't going to pursue hybrids or EV's. Of course Honda had its hybrid, but it wasn't really what the market wanted. This gave the Prius a huge head start in the market when fuel prices were high. It is only recently, within the last 5 years, the U.S. carmakers have been selling decent hybrids and EV's, and naturally, fuel prices have dropped due to the Saudi's desire to crush oil production in the U.S.

    That's wrong.

    a) We are talking about this year's iOS 9 (September 2015) vs Android 5 (November 2014)

    b) The number of iOS devices running the latest version is much larger than Android devices with last year's version (you see, jason98?):

@Anton Zuykov: that's a weird comparison. Absolute numbers matter for app developers. I can target more than 400 million users and be sure that they have the latest OS version.

Chrome OS only ever needed to be an operating mode of Android like safe boot. This way people can buy from the large amount of hardware options that come with Android and use them easily in a managed environment just by setting the operating mode but when necessary have access to a wide array of native apps to make the hardware investment more worthwhile. The reason for the separation is the support of touch vs mouse:

Chrome OS was Google's desktop OS like what OS X is for Apple. They'll have to put a desktop operating mode into Android. It is possible to control Android with a mouse but apps and the UI are all designed for touch input so you can't just plug in a mouse and have it work like a desktop and the windowed UI on desktops isn't suitable for mobile systems. I expect their approach will be similar to how Microsoft has converged Windows desktop and mobile systems.

The difficulty with apps comes from switching between the modes. In order to allow a lot of control on the desktop, apps use menus and small UI elements so they can fit a lot in and there are windows to switch quickly between different panels. To make the app work efficiently with touch, those things have to be removed so you compromise the control and efficiency of the desktop environment. They can come up with a suitable UI that will work with both under the assumption that touch input is a priority.

Do you HONESTLY think there's any other reason for that besides "it's dirt cheap"?
Yup. There's several reasons as you'd find if you take 10 minutes to research what you just asked. Just 10 minutes....

You should watch it. You'll see just how wrong you are. You can thank Big Oil.

The Honda Insight was the first hybrid sold in the USA, 7 months before the Prius. Honda screwed up by making it a 2-seater. It was MUCH more efficient than the Prius, with many owners reporting 70+ MPG.

Yup, that's a plus. It's much more easily managed, and ideal for multiple users.

I'm still convinced that AI pays DED by the word. An otherwise decent article is drug down (and needlessly inflated) by the author's irrelevant diatribe against Android.

There's at least one really good reason [@]9secondko[/@] likely won't reply, and it's not that he won't see the question IMO. ;)

how about one of your ever present, useful links?

after a year of reading the constant google cheerleading, im just trying to get an idea of your motivation for coming to an apple site and steadfastly banging a google drum all day. surely your right to do so, but it doesnt make much sense on the surface.

If it thought it was the least bit beneficial, which is why I offer links for readers, I would take the time to look up one of the previous half-dozen or so times I've tried to respectfully explain. In this particular case I don't see a benefit, instead perhaps leading to distracting off-topic trolling from some segment of the membership. Not meaning you of course.

As this discussion is about Google, Chrome and Android any comments concerning them certainly seem proper, right? The writers feel this is the proper venue for topics about them since they originate the articles and I doubt they would not hope for accurate discussions in those threads. FUD should never be acceptable no matter who it concerns.

So IMO intelligent on-topic discourse shouldn't be discouraged especially where comments are invited, and I would hope you'd agree. If you have a thoughtful opinion/insight to share on the topic of Chrome merging with Android please do.
