Anyone know where I can get a domain registered?? Better yet, since I am all new to this, how does that work? Do you buy the domain name for a period of time, or is it rented...how does that all work??

Im loaded with questions lately <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />

Earthlink is offering free domain registration when you setup a biz hosting account, that's what I did...

when you register, you lease it for two years. It's usually about $50, and you pay that every two years. You want to make sure your keep up with your registration, or you may get squatted. Alot of porn companies like to scalp recently expired domains and then point them to their sites. This happened recently with a NAVY website, they let their registration expire, or just forgot to renew it, and it got scooped up by a porn site. It wasn't navy.com, but it was a domain that had alot of links to it. I forget whether or not they got it back.

Anywho, if you're just looking for a domain, <a href="http://www.internic.com"; target="_blank">internic</a> can probably point you in the right direction.

I registered with Go-Daddy <a href="http://www.godaddy.com"; target="_blank">www.godaddy.com</a> for like $7.95 a year a while back. Ended up transferring to <a href="http://www.active-domain.com"; target="_blank">www.active-domain.com</a> later when I found out godaddy charges an additional $9.95 a year to do name forwarding. Meaning if you already have webhosting under another domain (such as .mac or a geocities account) and you want to be able to type in <a href="http://www.something.com"; target="_blank">www.something.com</a> and go to it automatically they charge you extra for it. Other than that it was a good deal at both places. Active Domain charges $9.95 a year I believe.
