The 1.533GHz AMD CPU is probably an Athlon XP 1800. Not actually the bottom of the Athlon pile, but not high end anymore.

I'm familiar with Komando and from what I've heard of her show she hasn't really kept up with current technology. Even PC users get disgusted with her. She strikes me as someone who stopped learning a while back but just keeps talking. It's too bad because there still some people who listen her and some of them could probably benefit from using a Mac.

But, as the gap between her limited knowledge and the current state of technology grows, she'll go away. It's only a matter of time before she and Dr. Lara are duking it out on the radio edition of Fox's Celebrity Boxing.

I think "Komando" should sit down and try to "Think Different" because the iMac and a Windows machine are two entirely different beasts.

The article was ,to say the least, full of misinformation and only suceeded to reveal the total ignorance and downright pig-headedness of the author.

If Kim would actually USE the Mac software available instead of dismissing it and commenting on it with no knowledge of any kind, I believe she would find that by and large, Mac software is not only equally functional to that of Windows, but in a lot of cases actually superior to same!

To tell people NOT to buy Apple is infecting them with mis-information and a personal grudge with Apple hardware/software is not helpful nor educational and un-biased journalism.

Let the people actually decide for themselves, I am sure they would be pleasantly surprised!

It's blatently obvious that Kim Komando is a "P.C bigot".

Millions of Mac users can't be wrong.

    She's a bit of a dipstick, isn't she?

My theory? Her looks, while not anything great to me, probably drives the prototypical computer geek bonkers, so she's forged countless alliances with the PC-using sector, appearing at trade shows, conferences, books, columns, etc.

She's probably placed on a pedestal (all the better to look up her dress?) by many, so maybe she feels like that's "her people" and leans to the pro-PC/anti-Mac side of things because she knows she'll draw more praise, adulation, etc. from the wank brigade.

It's a sick, twisted cycle. She needs them as much as they want her.

Did not even try itunes, idvd, imovie, etc...that along with the "twice as fast comment" and I could not figure out the mail program" show she is far from an expert. Apple does not give two shits about these type of people. If I sat in an office writing on word all day and that was it I would be happy with my 3 year old AMD too. If I wanted the best word processor I would buy a typewriter. It says a lot about the work she completes in a day if it will fit on a floppy.

And I am sure Microsoft would have published the article if it said she loved the iMac and windows was crap...that would be likely. Her lack of bias has nothing to do with the publishers total bias.

That bitch looks butt-ugly if you ask me. She's got that 80's poodle-hair thing going, and from the pic I saw of her she could stand to lose a few pounds as well.

What really irritates me about her isn't that she's a bimbo, but that she actually is given a means to inflict her ignorant opinions upon the masses. Clearly she's Micro$oft's little bitch, toeing the company line to stay employed and avoid thinking too much. To make matters even worse, her writing style is at the level of a 5th grader--seriously, take another look at her writing, it's really awful. It defies the senses that people like her get jobs like she has.

No need to point out her errors, since they've already been well documented in this thread, and I'd be preaching to the choir. But suffice to say that if I ever run into that bimbo I'm going to shove a floppy disk up her ass until it goes "click".

    Hilarious. Just hilarious.

Just to set some things straight...

    1) she said Macintosh HD was the counterpart to windows explorer. And she is exactly right. She didnt say WE was the same or better than Mac HD. Do you people know what counterpart means?

    2) Since Apple bought ClarisWorks and renamed it AppleWorks, and both programs look almost exactly the same, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. No big deal

    3) If someone asked me what laptop to buy for video editing, there is no way I would recommend an iBook. Not enough power. And there is no way I would recommend a tiBook to anyone for anything. Waaaay too overpriced. You could get an imac AND an ibook for the same price. I am a Mac user, but I would definately say get a dual powermac. But if they are hooked on a laptop, I would tell them to get a Dell, hands down.

What other stupid stuff did you guys say...

    4) Of course her AMD will be faster than the iMac!! How hard is this concept for you people to understand!! Mhz to Mhz, the Apple will be faster (800 powermac vs 800 p3/p4/amd/whatever). There is no contest in her situation.

How much more immature can anyone be? Calling her names? Saying she is ugly? What are you people, 13? Any other Mac forum, the posters would actually post intellectual things. But you come to Appleinsider and there isn't much for intelligent life here at all. No wonder every other forum looks down at this place.

I'll stop now before I become an official AppleInsider.

I don't like to get involved in these little flame wars but this is quite wrong. Macintosh HD is the default name of the hard drive... she , and you, are very wrong. "Macintosh HD" is actually the equivalent of "C:" if that helps you understand. The Finder is a counterpart to Windows Explorer... not the name of the hard drive. I'm sure you're a pc user, so i'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

to be honest most of the posts in this thread are so BAD it makes me embarrassed to be nearing 1000...

I think the comments are silly, it's daft to judge something you haven't tried.

HOWEVER: I blame Apple for this report because it was forseable. The user experiance of the GUI is awful. Even a celeron 300 FEELS faster than a G4-800. This is particulally true if you are just wordprocessing, emailing and browsing.

We as Mac users know that the behind the sceens processing power of the G4 is on a par or better than the machine she was comparing it too. It is not her fault, that her IMPRESSION was that it is a much slower machine. If she had used the OS9 GUI it would have seemd to be just as fast. I think her impressions are typical of the buying public...ill informed, but Apple has to deal with that, and the No1 priority is to speed up the GUI.

In today's column I'm going to write about two cars. The BMW 3 series and the Mercedes E 4x4 series. As I never drive offroad I'll only take into account how the cars do on a motorway. And man, what a slugish performans we get from the Merc. While the BMW goes from 0 - 60 in just under 7 seconds it takes the Mercedes 11 seconds. Very annoying for a motorway driver like me.........

Personally I think this lady is a joke. She had no real strong points and she didn't tells how often that XP machine crashes she left it as Xp is just as stable. Umm yeah ok. You do see minor speed differences but overall you will get your work done faster on the Mac, I know this because I used a Windows for over 10years. She was basicly writting this article for an easy way to make her money this month.

No one is saying either is better (although we DO know which is ), rather, that she doesn't even know what it IS. Windows Explorer is NOT the same thing as Macintosh HD.

[quote]2) Since Apple bought ClarisWorks and renamed it AppleWorks, and both programs look almost exactly the same, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. No big deal.

Well, since she's supposedly a computer and technology *expert*, I'm not going to give her the benefit of the doubt. Surely an expert like her can read. Did she not see the word AppleWorks anywhere when she was running the damn thing? Oh right - probably not... she likely skipped over it, like she did the others.

I don't think too many people here would either.
