Wow! I've been a raving fan for the last three decades. At my business, due largely to my evangelism of Apple products all 100 people are using Macs. Now I'm really concerned my favorite company is losing it and am finally compelled to say something.
First, quality control is going downhill. What has happened to Apple Mail. The current version is full of bugs. Seems like everyone is going to gmail and dropping their mail client. Gmail is reliable and shows constant improvements and refinements. That's just one example. I could go on about other similar half baked products but those are not what caused me to make this post.
If Apple releases the kind of pathetic "entertainment" content suggested in this article, my unwavering support for Apple products will almost certainly begin to see an intentional end. Apple, you have a history of making products that improve the quality of people's lives. Why not make content that improves peoples lives. If you can't do that, get out of the media business. Just like Apple doesn't try to make cheap run of the mill products in an effort to improve market share, Apple shouldn't produce garbage content to grab a few more eyeballs for it's Apple TV. This whole thing smells of desperation. Tim Cook needs to get back to doing what makes Apple great and shut this thing down. Apple needs to make products that are empowering and improve peoples lives in new and innovative ways.
If the RUMOR of original content makes you want to jump ship, you've never really been a fan to begin with.

Behold! The arbiter of what can be said about Apple has arrived!
Bizarre Apple would bankroll this when their own app approval policy is so straightlaced. What in the hell is going on at Apple? Is Jimmy and Dre running the show now?
I'm sure there will be interest in this, but it just seems like more extremely inconsistent decision making. Does Apple want to be Netflix, HBO or Cinemax...or the Disney Channel?
Also where is Apple's version of Amazon Echo (which is getting great reviews). Perhaps Eddy should be focusing on that.
in my pocket -- iphone. why would i want another piece of e-junk sitting on my pretty counters? smh
Jesus. You old white people are annoying and I'm white. It's music... Sorry you don't like it but its ok... Ur irrelevant too
Is this better, "Yo dawg is dis sheet fo' real? I's can't be wate'n fo it be on an sheet. F'ya brah."
You young hipster millennials are even worse. Everything must be accepted at face value unless it is a point of view that runs counter to how YOU feel about it.
What hipster millennial talks like that exactly ? Wow. Anything that has to do with Dre really burns people' s bums. Yo dawg is dis sheet for real ? Lol. Smh.

That's no way to talk to a longtime Apple fan that doesn't like this rumor. Many people don't.

The ones who think they're hard (when they're in their little free speech bubble or whatever the hell its called).
Apple buys Beats for $3 B and gets to add these two dudes to the payroll
Silly Google
poor comparison. besides being a decade ago, youtube wasnt turning profit, whereas beats has a billion dollar business already as best selling headphones (whether people here like that fact or not).
THR has its sources and most of the time they are credible. I know this will be controversial no matter what. Regardless, I won't judge anything until it comes out. I'd add that Game of Thrones also has strong content and while there is a vocal minority that dislike it, it is a very well regarded show. Entertainment is extremely subjective. To those comparing the App Store to the iTunes Store, the iTS has always had more mature content. This presumably wouldn't be on the App Store. Heck, the THR report doesn't shed like on the final delivery medium.
Oh, shut the fuck up. If the RUMOR of original content makes you want to jump ship, you've never really been a fan to begin with.
You STFU. That's no way to talk to a longtime Apple fan that doesn't like this rumor. Many people don't.
who gives a shit? that doesnt change the fact -- if the mere mention of a RUMOR causes a "long time fan" to threaten jumping ship, then its all just bullshit and hes a concern troll. i cant count the number of 1-post wonders weve seen with messages akin to this: "I LOVE APPLE AND OWNED EVERY PRODUCT SINCE [x], BUT NOW I'M CONCERNED BECAUSE OF [rumor xxx]". its nonsense.

I believe that billion was income, not profit and Apple paid way too much for it.
Actually, if anantksundaram says that was a fair deal then I'll withdraw that as I suspect he would know how to value a company far better than I would.
"On September 27, 2013, HTC confirmed that it would sell its remaining 24.84% stake in Beats back to the company for US$265 million. Concurrently, Beats announced that the Carlyle Group would make a US$500 million minority investment in the company.[21][22] The overall deal valued Beats Electronics at US$1 billion[8] "
To be honest, if the majority of the people here liked this then I really would be worried.
Bear at in mind that Apple is looking to attract the next generation of users. The folk sitting around the camp fire here, reminiscing about the good old days under Steve, don't really figure in Apple' long term plan: we won't live long enough.
What Apple is Apple thinking?
Well, they're thinking that even as a fifty year old bloke, Dre shifted half a million copies of his last album. Compton grossed about $200 million on a limited release and has been nominated for an Oscar.
I'm going to see what they come up with and then decide.

You jest - we are the only ones with enough disposable income to be able to afford Apple products ;-)

If Apple became less repressed about sexuality in its media offerings, it would be a positive.
I suppose if they completely abandon their (up till now) "family friendly" focus, they could do that.
Now, considering the demographics of the country, this might be a smart thing for them to do. There are far, far fewer families with kids and far, far more retiring Baby Boomers and childless younger people today than even 20 years ago. In addition, how many are aware that the latest hit movie (Deadpool, which just debuted to a massive $90 million open) is drenched in violence and sex? I think this is the trend for now.

1) no, this is a rumor.
2) you dont know that it's trash, because you havent seen it
3) sex & violence != trash. see The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, etc.
4) sex & violence entertainment content isnt related to morals
5) where was your moral outrage for Amazon? Netflix? etc
...jeeze. so much puritan nonsense.

And it's Apple that is extremely puritan and ridiculously political correct, and that's partly why I find this rumor to be very hypocritical.

and trump is a fuckwad, btw.
However, it doesn't really matter what you think of him. He'll soon be your prez, regardless of your opinion of him.

Yes, Apple is funding a show starring Dr. Dre. No, this doesn't mean Apple is funding a bunch of premium TV series.
