Can it be two to three years already when every phone lacks the God forsaken audio jack and forget to thank Apple, like always
That may be the case but they won't be using Lightning. In three years Apple probably won't be using Lightning either. I predict that a USB-C to Lightning adaptor will be in the box.
You think Apple will not being using a Lightning port on their devices, but instead move to USB-C, while still offering Lighting headphones that then require a USB-C-to-Lighting adapter?

Nope. I think they will switch everything to USB-C eventually.

Then what is the USB-C to Lightning adaptor for? Why wouldn't they make that move now? Why would they kill their profitable MFi program? Why would they make a point to say how popular Lighting-based devices are?

The headphone jack is a minor issue. The price is a big one.
    No it isn't

    $650 for the iPhone7.
Use it for 2 years and then get $400 for trade in

That means for 2 years of use you pay $250.

That's 36 cents a day for something you use every day, 10+ hours a day.

Sure you buy a POS phone for $200 but it will be broken in a year and definitely worthless after 2 years. So you save $25 a year using a crappy POS phone.

People need to stop just looking at the initial price but look at trade in value and time saved versus using a crap phone or worse a phone that literally can kill you with an explosion/fire.

Nope, don't even go there...that website shows the hardware cost only...what about R&D? Salaries? Buildings? Electric bills? etc?  How about iOS 11?? Their support system?

They need to learn what the word "profit" actually means.

Picking my pre-order up on Friday. My first launch day iPhone. I'm excited.

I've had my 5s for 3 years. I can probably count the number of times I plugged something into the jack. Riddance.

I'm sure Apple is really bummed that they weren't able to ship all the camera features for the Plus model on day 1. Gruber called the Plus camera update meh. That's not what Schiller wants to hear.
please quote where Gruber says or even implies only a "meh" camera update. cuz it ain't there. we'll wait.
    It was on Twitter.
so nowhere in his review is that implied, then. got it, thanks for the clarification.

One question I have is with the Jet black model if you're on the upgrade program will fine micro abrasions or small scratches be tolerated when you turn in your phone to Apple. Or is Apple going to penalize you for not using a case?  Because it's not a question of if you get scratches.....you will. Guaranteed.
mmm, delicious FUD you've prepared this morning.
It's not FUD. The jet black phone will show scratch. All the reviews confirm this.
yes, we already knew that since, you know, Apple said it themselves. it's your "concern" about Apple rejecting IUP exchanges over it that's the complete FUD that we've come to expect.

FACT: the only thing Apple got rid of was the analog jack.
I don't think we can say that at this point. Lightning is highly adaptable so we can't rule out that the iPhone senses the analog headphones with a Lightning plug and then uses the internal DAC and amp to push audio onto the Lightning port for both the included headphones and adapter.

Hopefully we'll know on Thursday after iFixit tears down the Lighting-to-3.5mm adapter. If it includes a DAC and amp, then we know it's digital audio until after it leaves the iPhone.

That would be great: the rest of the tech industry would follow, and USB-C will truly turn into a universal port for nearly every possible need: data, video, and digital or analog audio so the user can use any USB-C phones they want.

    Seriously.

How many of your electronics you use are analog now?

    TV? Digital
    Computer? Digital
    Home Theater receiver? Digital

Its ridiculous to expect Apple to use analog technology forever.
Yet all speakers are still analog!

I simply don't understand the complaint about the missing headphone jack. I suspect a vast majority of people listen while taking mass transit, walking, exercising, biking - all instances where you don't need to be charging and listening at the same time.

Further, how LONG can people listen to music? All day while working? I've not seen a work environment where you're not talking to people, answering the phone, or getting up for meetings throughout the day. In most cases, no one has their headphones in at all, or perhaps for a short time during a break or lunch. So again, there is no issue charging during the yawning gaps of downtime.

And I hope you don't drive while wearing earbuds.

The adapter complaint is a non-issue. I've had a Belkin adapter on my Sennheiser earphones for several months, since the Senns 3.5mm pin cannot reach the iPhone through the charging case. I put it on once, and have never taken it off. No issues of forgetting it or losing it. My Senns essentially are three inches longer, thats it.

So for the few percent of people that listen to 10 hours of music straight a day, or will be switching their ear buds among several devices constantly, I suppose there is some legitimate agitation. Just like there were a few percent of people who lamented the loss of floppy and CD media. But this is no reason to delay progress.

I like to charge my phone in the car (required lightning port) and use the phone as an input into my car stereo at the same time (requires headphone jack). Especially if I am on satnav. People who do this can not do so anymore. Likewise, if I 'do' want to listen to music whilst at work, I am unable to keep it on charge at the same time. Admittedly I don't see this as a big issue compared to the car. In either scenario, Apple expects me to buy an unnecessary Apple Lightning charging dock or similar to accomplish what was an easy thing to do until now.

The "concerns" about the headphone jack reminds me of the "concerns" people had when Apple moved from the 30-pin iPod Connector to Lighting. Funny, I no longer hear those same "concerns" about this is bad for Apple, that it will destroy the iPhone market, that it will drive everyone to Android, and that Apple will have to reverse their decision on their port if they want to stay in business.

I use headphones a lot and I don't think I could get this iPhone without the headphones jack.
Maybe if I were to get this case, I would probably buy it

    1) Most of us use headphones, but that doesn't mean we need a single-purpose jack in our phones to use headphones.

    2) #Auxforlife? Really?!
