One thing they didn't say was how effective the ad was. they made a general statement that 5 of the 10 most-liked ads of the year were effective, but they don't really say which ones.

The last commecial I saw from Apple that actually made me WANT something of theirs was either the "She's a Rainbow" colored iMac one, or the one with the spinning/floating tangerine iBook and Barry White talking all horn-dog over it.
The G4 tanks, the "Purple Haze" G4 Cube, "Middle Seat", "Rip, Mix & Burn", "Baby Jack" and, yes, even this award-winner featuring the tongue-protruding iMac all kinda suck, to be honest.
All style, no substance. That's often enough, but you can't do that ALL the time. And they do.
Would it kill Apple to perhaps have a multi-pronged marketing approach? Seems these "Switch" ads are the end-all, be-all to Apple right now. How about some nice hardware ads? Some iApp spots (being that's what MOST people would probably respond to the most) and even a - gasp - commercial or two touting OS X?
I STILL don't get that one...the biggest thing Apple has done in YEARS (OS X), and we're the only ones who truly know (or care) about it?
I have seen much better!
no?

Let's look at the overall purpose of TV advertising:
* Promote product name
* Show product features
* Be interesting and memorable (so that when Joe Shmoe goes into the store, they say to themselves "oh, yeah, that _____ ad was cool!)
All of Apple's ads do that, and do it well. Look at "Elope:" It's a simple, romantic ad where we see how easy it is to make a DVD with a Mac.
"Baby Jack:" If I remember correctly, having babies is something that almost EVERYONE does at one point. How cool is it to be able to integrate the features of a computer into the special experience?
The original iPod ad: This one shows what a blast it can be to own an iPod. It literally is plug, unplug, and play all you want, wherever you want. Yet many of you thought it sucked.
The Switch Ads: Real people with real stories of how an Apple product has made their life easier -- while usually being funny at the same time.
Now, I DO agree that Apple needs to come up with a couple ads that convey how stable and simple to use that OS X is. Throwing the QTs from the web site isn't the way to do it, though.
thats it, im gonna make some commercials, maybe apple will steal my ideas haha
