Just in time for Christmas, Apple on Thursday revealed the all time best-selling holiday movies on iTunes since the online storefront began selling films in 2008, with Will Ferrell's "Elf" taking the top spot.

Below "Elf," which saw release in 2003, is perennial favorite "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" starring Chevy Chase.

Third place goes to the live action adaptation of "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" with Jim Carrey in the title role, while the John Hughes Christmas classic Home Alone," directed by Chris Columbus and starring Macaulay Culkin, takes the No. 4 spot.

Finally, Robert Zemeckis' "Polar Express," which stars Tom Hanks in a variety of voice roles, is listed as the fifth most popular iTunes holiday movie of all time.

Apple's announcement comes two weeks after it revealed this year's Best of 2016 picks, highlighting standout apps, TV shows, movies, e-books and other digital content sold across the company's various digital storefronts.
