Laurene Powell Jobs, wife of late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, will be making an appearance at May's Code conference to discuss her trust's philanthropic efforts.

Announcing the appearance, Re/code notes that she will be appearing with U.S. Senator for California Kamala Harris, and will be discussing why she's working with "social entrepreneurs" with her trust, the Emerson Collective, and what other people can do to help tackle larger issues plaguing the country and world.

The Emerson collective centers its work on education, immigration reform, the environment and other social initiatives.

The Code conference will take place between May 30 and June 1 at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. Also expected to appear at the conference are Steve Ballmer, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich, Uber founder Travis Kalanick, and Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, amongst others.

Powell Jobs inherited the Steven P. Jobs Trust, which at the time of inheritance had a 7.3 percent stake in Disney worth approximately $11.1 billion, and 38.5 million shares of Apple. In 2016, Fortune magazine named her as the richest woman in the technology industry.

Besides founding the Emerson Collective, and managing the Laurene Powell Jobs Trust, Powell Jobs sits on the board of directors of College Track, NewSchools Venture Fund, Conservation International, and Stanford University.

Kamala Harris? Ugh. Ms. Jobs will fritter away her husband's fortune on worthless progressive social causes to impress her Silicon Valley sewing circle instead of using that money wisely. What a waste, but hey... I didn't marry her.

Sometimes those social causes are men and women that have come back from Iraq or Afghanistan and can't get the care they deserve and get help from veterans support organizations.

    Steve was a progressive Democrat.
Not according to several of his personal decisions.

Sorry but Steve Jobs is based. He supported Ross Perot and his politics are more in-line with Trump than Clinton. Also he was not pleased with Obama: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/steve-jobs-obamas-focus-on-excuses-infuriated-him/

    Ha!

I remember (1983-1984) when Gary Hart was running to get the Democrat nomination for president...

Woz was running around telling people that he, the other Steve and many people at Apple were supporting Hart -- because a Hart presidency would be Good for Jobs... Get it? (Woz' words, not mine)

Sometime in the early Apple years, Jobs appeared before the US House.  At that time, House Members had name signs in front of their seating position stating:  Rep[resentative] So-And-So...

When asked a question by a member, Jobs addressed him: Mr. Republican So-And-So...

    The member was a Democrat.

The best I can determine from my research, Jobs supported and voted for Democrats, but he wasn't afraid to openly criticize them (especially in his criticism of Obama, of teachers unions, and in his occasional swipes at tax policies). Plus, the way he ran his company was most certainly not in the style of a typical, cartoonish Democrat. He'd fire people at the drop of a hat.

Come on people! What does this story have anything to do with Steve's affiliation or otherwise with political party. The topic is about Laurene. Let her be in peace and let her do with the money she personally has and what was left to her by Steve's trust. Secondly, Apple Insider shouldn't have posted this article any way - It has nothing to do with Apple or it's competitor.
