Is the PC catching up to the Mac?
I don't mean in speed, we all know that story, I mean in the traditional Mac strengths, ease of use and capatability.
Last night I saw a 3.06gig Pentium 4 Sony Vaio Digital Studio PC.
It looks cool, has some very nice software that would seem to compete well with the iLife applications (Picture Gear, Gigipocket, Direct to DVD,Movie Shaker and Sonic Space).
The Gigipocket software is cool, you can stream live TV to any other computer on your network.
It has all of the ports you could ever need, including firewire and 4 USB 2 hubs.
Not to mention the speed, you could add the Radeon 9700Pro video card and the Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum right now to make a killer system.
This is NOT a troll, I love my Mac but would this seem tempting to anyone but me?
I'm just getting a little tired waiting for something big from Apple to be released as well as the delay in the Radeon 9700Pro video card.

this seems right in line with the pc vs Mac, Dec 2002 article discussion. Any thoughts on that?
PCs caught up with Macs a long time ago.

i wouldn't say that totally, PC's got easier but macs still have the interface (standardness between apps and better looking) and more logic just the way things are set up...they are getting closer though, i mean you can only go so long with crap ideas before you think about them and improve them, and there are so many thing you can improve until you have it close to perfect
I have two PC's running Win2k Pro and Server. My Mother has XP which I find more distasteful than Wink2k for the fact that it treats it's users like Morons with Wizards and hidden files.
PC's will still drive you crazy. For every guy that says "My PC works flawlessly" there are 15 people screamin' about some compatibility issue on a Messageboard.
PC Developers are far too rogueish in their ways. I sometimes feel like just surfing the internet leads the control of my PC to be ripped from my grasp. Microsoft is far to lenient about letting Developers modify the Windows Environment in unhealthy ways(windows that don't close with a alt+W etc) I shouldn't have to know three different ways to accomplish a task because a developer disabled "basic" UI features.
My computers aren't the fastest but Windows still Multitasks choppy and the Display Server still screws up the UI under load.
Sometimes an item on your toolbar will crash screwing up how your Taskbar functions.
No Windows is not yet there. Those little "design touches" that Apple does that you take for granted are rare items in Windows.
I love using OS X and with the Geforce 4Ti video card, with it my 933Mhz Powermac ticks along nicely.
The Sony though for a PC is not bad, it has 6(!) USB 2 ports and 2 firewire ports.
Sure the Mac has nicer and better integrated software but the pluses of a PC like the Sony can't be denied, I just hope Apple will come up with something soon.
You have to admit waiting for the Mac version of the 9700 Pro video card months after the PC has it is frustrating.

Not really EmAn. The PC is still as annoying as a bitchy old ladie out of touch with present time.

Oh yeah. I forgot, I'm at AppleInsider, so that means PCs suck. My bad.

EmAn being sarcastic? PC's don't suck because you are an AI member, they suck because they just do.
EmAn is right...pc's dont suck anymore, this is tru, they are annoying at times, frustrating even more to people that have used or use macs. but they do not suck. they just dont have the final touches and detail put into them that macs and OS X does...do you dispute that EmAn?

No, I don't dispute that at all. You're absolutely right.
Uhm, EmAn is not right in saying in that PC's caught up to Macs. Apple and Microsoft are going in totally different directions and Apple has had the time to develop their strategy for a longer time. PC's do not have the interface ease and are not built up to the quality standard of a Mac. They are not there yet, but they are pretty close in terms of idea.

Uhm, EmAn is right. Shut up Chris.
