1TB on a mobile phone? What’s the point other than spec whoring?
I think you got this wrong. If the same logic was applied by ALL the companies for the past 20+ years, we would have been stuck with 128KB of storage now.

No, he's right. It's just for bragging rights. It's like processors advertising their clock rates and seeing who has the higher numbers.

Complaining about running out of storage on a 16GB phone is a legitimate complaint since a lot of people on these devices do use up their storage. Saying we need 1TB as a solution is asinine. Especially when half of that 1TB is slow-ass SD card storage with restricted functionality.
It is not complaining about inadequate storage, more like moving technology forward. And if I remember correctly, Samsung has developed a faster UFS card storage solution last year and S8 and S9 phones support faster removable storage. So it is NOT useless as you think it is. It is very useful in certain scenarios.
It's as useful as killing a bug with a sledgehammer.

Isn't this the whole philosophy of the android industry?

Fingerprint sensor still on the back (and so many hoping for it to be under the screen).
And Apple was laughed at and called a failure for not accomplishing TouchID under the screen. Sammy gets a pass though....

    Yawn.

No innovation this year so they decide to bump the storage. Still using inferior UFS (like everyone else). If they wanted to impress on the storage front they should have used NVMe, like Apple has since the 6S.
I've been reading rumors online that the sales of their Note line have been so bad they're thinking of retiring the name entirely.

Yeah, it’ll become nothing but a footnote in history.

Yeah, but how’s Samsung going to do it if they don’t have Apple to steal from? There’s only Android expectation if there’s an Apple equivalent.

In other news, a lame has-been which used to copy Apple products as its source of income released another ugly piece of crap to rival the Newton. Unfortunately, with no sustainable profit, Apple’s main competitor on the rise now looks to be Huawei, which may break even sometime in 2021. With no growth left in the industry, Business Insider is insisting that Apple is Doomed (c). More details at 11!

Isn't the reason iPads and iPhones don't have external storage abilities a lot to do with both securities of the devices and DRM so as to make deals with publishers of music and movies easier.  I could be totally wrong but that as my understanding of the logic.
It could also be because if the 32Gb model had expandable storage, say by another 128Gb, what reason would you then have to spend more money to buy one with 128Gb when the 32Gb model for £319 plus £31 for the SD card giving a total storage of 160 for £350 is still cheaper than £409 for 128Gb.

I have almost 1TB of movies and tv series on microSD cards and usb sticks in my campervan for when we go away (requiring additional devices; micro sd card reader/media streamer connected to wifi, power bank to power it, etc. etc.) - it would be so much easier to manage and watch/stream to other devices if I had it all on my phone. There's always a scenario/market for things even if it doesn't apply to yourself.
