If new iPod, what's price of old one?
Should a 10gig version be unveiled at MWTokyo, what would be a reasonable price drop for the current one?
Apple has a history of introducing updated products at the price of where the old one was. So you would assume $399 for a 10gig. Most have guessed the current one then being discounted to $299.
Can they surprise us and go lower? Like...
10gig = $299
5 gig = $199

10GB = $449

Don't know why I feel that way, maybe so if (or is it when) they upgrade the iPod and it comes in cheaper than I expected, I'll be even more happy!
Edit: I can't even get my own numbers right! Need to stop Director for a while and take a break!

5 Gig $249
Old iPod $384.
A very Apple pricing scheme.

Two ways around it, that I can see. 1, sell the iPod 2 as a voice recorder (with a built in Mic) and only unlock the Mp3 functionality through a download from Apple's site. I don't think anyone would really be fooled by that.
so,
2, At the risk of a little extra initial expense, make the drive swappable. Everything about the current iPod remains as is. The 32MB buffer stays, and the form factor and battery remain almost identical. Except, instead of enclosing the drive, sell the iPod with a type 2 Card slot. Apple can get a good deal by buying a crap load of drives. Perhaps even bare ones that they can put their own PC-card shell on. They could even sell their own removable PC-card HDD's to pro digicam users, or make it interchangeable with an Apple branded MPEG4/still/quicktime camera.
You now buy iPods and drives seperately (from the same order page) but packaged seperately. I can't see how Apple could then be taxed, the drives are no longer part of the internal storage of the machine. They not just for iPod, they're for PDA's ? and cameras too!
I don't think this will happen, but it might if law makers force Apple's hand.
On the absurd Canadian taxation scheme ....Apple's hand.

Is this a Canadian thing only?
If so, I don't expect Apple to care one bit. After all our market is so small for them to concern themselves over a tax slapped on by our government.
I heard there was a site that Canadians could log onto and express their opinions about this new proposed tax. Unfortunately, I don't know what it is.
I don't think Apple has redesigned the 'pod to fit a swappable hddr scheme. Though i think that'd b a good idea though (so when it fills up, some1 can buy a bigger one, w/o replacing the whole thing).

"good bye, crewl werld. i'm leavig you today.
goodbye. goodbye.
goodbye."
However, with a great many HD based MP3 players coming to market in the form of multi-GB MP3 servers for your home and car stereo, it is possible that similar taxes might find their way into more than one international market (and possibly the US) Only then.
Either way, a PC-card drive HDD iPod might be cool (if a little un-Apple) Imagine just being able to buy more HDD's for your iPod.
