It might be a long time until we see DDR-II, but how about DDR-2100 in a dual-channel configuration?
ATI just released it's equivalent to nVidia's nForce chipset, the ATI IGP 3xx(m) series. Unfortunately just for x86-compatible processors, but you never know what Apple has been working on lately. And the IGP 320M just sounds tempting for the iBook, doesn't it.
The new nVidia nForce chipset does support 200 MHz DDR-RAM - effectively 400 MHz bandwidth - and it is rumored that they showed it behind closed doors with Samsung 200 MHz DDR-RAM which is as of yet not officialy available.
why...WHY THE F*CK do people still waste their time reading MOSR, and then to make matters worse, spam the boards here with useless Meader quotations? How many times do people have to hear that this guy's information is FABRICATED before they get the f*cking idea? JEEEEzus....

Cool it a little, Moogs. First of all, MOSR has been right a few times in the past. Second, if a mole is going to send out information it would likely be to a visible rumour site. Third, I don't think anybody is staking anything on this, and it just gives us something to chat about. So chill.
The SuperDrive rumour looks believable enough. And of course Apple is going to test it -- do you think they'd just put anything into their products, sight unseen? They'll evaluate the unit to ensure it is reliable, compatible, and worth the cost.
The LCD rumour looks reasonable enough as well. Apple likes the widescreen formats, and so do I. Different pixel densities result in different resolutions, but it all comes down to what is available in mass quantity and at a reasonable price.
The 7500 rumour is certainly optimistic, but is at least as likely as all the rumours and speculation leading up to MWSF back in January! I don't know what MOSR meant by "Rapid-IO compatible memory", but most likely it was just an attempt to "fluff up" the rumour a bit. If the 7500 does exist and it has a new memory controller interface (either onchip or connected via a high speed bus) then no doubt it'll use different memory than the current PowerMacs -- that could be all that was meant. It'll probably just be the standard DDR or RDRAM. It would be awfully nice to see the 7500 arrive at MWNY... I'm planning to buy the first machine that Apple ships with a signficantly faster memory architecture. The faster, the better.
Umm the cinima display is the same height(sp?) as the 17" and BOTH have a resolution greater then the TiBook... sure, this is going to happen...

This would make more sense if it was the same height as the 15" LCD.
Though the TiBooks aspect ratio is not the same as the cinema display, is it?
I have said before that I would *love* to have a Cinema Display this size.
Though the TiBooks aspect ratio is not the same as the cinema display, is it?

The TiBook has a 3:2 aspect ratio. The Cinema Display's is 16:10 - a little taller than the 16:9 ratio used for movies. The 15" and 17" have a 4:3 ratio, which is the de facto standard for computer monitors.
I will say this about the newest round of MOSR rumors:
They called Remote Desktop about a week and a half ago. Their prediction was pretty accurate.
The Gay Blade (NMR) has been calling for 1.4 GHz G4s for a while now (and even mentioned his sighting of them in his more official eweek capacity).
I don't think its that far fetched to see 1.4 GHz PowerMacs in the near future (e.g. the next three months). Apple prolly had the intention of releasing them at SF, but didn't for whatever reason.
The sad thing is that by just announcing these machines, Apple could prolly avoid the earnings fiasco for this quarter. Maybe they will, maybe they won't.
At any rate...I'm looking forward to buying one of these bad boys.

So long.
Let's assume the rumor on the 17" LCD being in the works is true. let's assume also the resolution is correct.
What makes more sense to you?
a low cost 17" studio display with no market niche at all, or, a 17" top notch iMac model?
keeping the res low will also keep the cost low, it makes perfect sense.
But then again I don't believe it myself.

PS: I don't think apple will be adopting graphics card memory systems for system ram anytime soon. mind the costs.

Actually the ACD is slightly taller than the 17" ASD.

not in terms of viewable area, which is what I was talking about...

That would be way cool!

Touche! But seriously, AI has not gotten one rumor wrong all year. (Or one right for that matter)

AI has a front page????
as is MOSR
but it's a good read a few times a week

I actually calculated the ratio for the 15" and then ASS-U-ME'd that the 17" was the same.
One of these days, I'll learn.
