?Steve and his team have done an incredible job in making Apple once again the very best in the world,? said former Vice President Al Gore. ?I have been particularly impressed with the new Mac OS X operating system and the company?s commitment to the open source movement. And I am especially looking forward to working with and learning from the great board members who have guided this legendary company?s inspiring resurgence.?
That's pretty funny stuff coming from a former vice president. Apple will TAKE OVER THE WORLD!
I give a lot more credit to Al Gore then I do to Bill Gates.
Bill Gates despises the open source movement.
Al Gore should make some public comments about how he supports Apple on the open source move and how it could only do good and Bill Gates will get red in the face.
I think most people will take Gore more seriously then Gates.
if you all think it is embarrasing to have gore on the BOD of your favorite fruit company, try to imagine what an embarrasment it was to have Jesse "the dummass" Ventura running your state. The only good things about his term were the jokes.
Maybe Al will be in a switch ad. Now would that be cool.
The ad can start by him saying, "Ever been screwed in over by your competitor? I sure have. I lost an election because some ballets were not counted and I had to turn to my trusted friend. Actually one of my good friends, my iMac. He was there for me while I cried, he was there for me when I yelled at the top of my *ucking lungs. He was there. He kept me going because it never froze and I never saw a blue screen. Hey, I even got to edit some pictures of me a Bill in iPhoto and I made a CD for Tipper in iTunes. Hell, that Mac is the only thing that kept me going. Imagine what I would have turned out like if I owned a PC, I sure wouldn't have a Board job with Apple now would I. My name is Al, and I am still a mess.
I'm starting to question what is real in the world. There's no way in the world that I could have woken up this morning and thought to myself "Hmmmm, maybe Al Gore will be elected to Apple's Board of directors today. It's just, you know, a completely random event. Hey, look, a bird...."
Uh, if you don't attend the majority of the board meetings you get thrown off the board. Them's the rules.
I can see why Gore was brought on board (so to speak). He was instrumental in making the Internet what it is today (which is not really a compliment — I hated the "Information Superhighway" from the day I first read about it), and Apple engineers have said that they are working to bring the Internet back toward what it was originally envisioned to be, rather than an insufficiently redundant, overly centralized, top-down turf war fought by variously bankrupt, corrupt and monopolistic companies. AirPort and Rendezvous are crucial steps in this direction.
The new, transparent, bottom-up Internet looks much more promising, and I can understand why Gore would be interested in being part of it. Even if I don't like what he did the first time, he certainly has enough knowledge and enough research under his belt to have earned the respect of the 'net's principle architects. He brings a lot of important contacts with him, as well.
However, I'd prefer him in a more advisory or supporting role. I think Apple's engineers are doing a bang-up job of redefining how networking is done, and subversively reintroducing the world to AppleTalk.

ahhhh, remember his radio show on KFAN before he was govenor?
"When I younger, if you wanted to get drunk, you drank mad dog 20/20!
It's interesting to hear all the different perspectives on this issue. From reading various articles, I''ve decided that nothing bad can come from this. Al Gore certainly brings a lot of experiences to the table that no one on the board has ever had before, which will be good. He is a very well known person (More so than Steve Jobs), but that could backfire because of his political background. If nothing else, we can all get some good laughs out of it.
Comments
"Hey, even an idiot like me can use it!"
or: "Invade Iraq on a Mac!"
You decide.

No actually, the National Science Foundation and DARPA were the instuments that organized the net.
Vint Cerf (ICANN) took over a very well established network environment from them.
Saying Anyways Andreesen was just a member is like saying GWB is just a member of the 43rd Presidency.

This is weird.

lol, that's kinda cool actually, even though i'm no fan of Gore's.
isn't GW a Mac user too? funny how that works.
yup, and so is clinton... it was on that "mac myths" page http://www.apple.com/myths/
Or if you are President of the United States (our two most recent presidents, a Democrat and a Republican, both use Macs).
Jobs is an ultra-liberal. Gore is very likely in need of money (hey, who isn't?).
SJ: "No, Al, I can't lend you a million bucks, sorry. Hmmm... wait, I have an idea."

I mean, you're not even doing the lisssp when you write his dialogue. Get it right!
