"Rather than leaving the glass clear, the cube has been coated in a multi-colored wrap, Quartzreports, with the semi-reflective material providing enough light to see the hanging Apple logo, but still preventing onlookers from seeing into the underground retail space. It is likely the film will be removed for the grand opening."
One really has to wonder why it's taken two years to expand into adjoining existing basement space. You knock some walls down, you pour Apple's ugly concrete floors, you put up wall panels, you bring in the parsons tables and you're done. An entire office building can be built in little more than two years. You'd think this was being built by Government.
Yes, because knocking through a massive underground space with thousands of people walking above, reinforcing, waterproofing and rewiring it is exactly the same as knocking through your kitchen.
Apparently, this colored glass is temporary, a credible website is reporting that an Apple employee told them it will be removed and the cube will be clear again. It's just to celebrate the remodel. That means it's a great photo chance to get this now.
Surprised it's still a cube. Thought they would have done a cylinder.
They are completely out of ideas since Jon Ive left.
First, John Ive was still well within Apple when that place was designed.
Second, it’s about renovating an iconic store, not replacing it; which included reducing the number of seams in the glass structure, which likely required innovative techniques to make glass panels that size.
Third, there are plenty of other high profile locations where Apple has or will have flagship stores now and in the future, where to create different creative visions. So these’s Zero need to tear down one groundbreaking icon to make space for a different one.
the user "Apple II" made a comment that it's only temporary color for the glass and it will be clear again. Wonder how they know that, was it announced?
For fucks sake, doesn't anybody actually read the articles before commenting? There were also two FTA mentions. And given that it's a wrap on the glass, I like AI's use of 'unwrapped' in the headline, even though it wasn't referring to the colored glass.
Anyway, I really like the Soap Bubble look and wish Apple had made it permanent. And I like the Apple used in the Event invitation and wouldn't mind seeing it on Apple kit.

🙄
Yep... all the armchair structural engineers are crying out as to why Apple didn’t hire them to do the remodel. They probably could have done it in 3 days, 4 tops. * rolls eyes *
