Can’t help but feel that the AirPod Pro is what the AirPod 2’s should have been, a significant improvement over the first generation.
There shouldn’t be an AirPod Pro and an AirPod 2, just AirPod.
The article is wrong, there is no AirPods 2. It’s just the second generation of AirPods, which is improved over the first gen. On the Apple site they are sold simply as “AirPods”, whereas versioned iPhones are sold as “iPhone 11” etc.
AirPods and AirPods Pro... The current AirpPods being sold are factually 2nd generation which AI simply called "2" so as to note the distinction. I don't consider the article to be wrong at all.

Of course you don’t, you don’t even own an iPhone. The article is factually wrong, because while there is a second generation AirPods, they are never labeled “AirPods 2” anywhere on the Apple store, while actually versioned products are. Them’s just the facts. Much like how later iPods and even notebooks had generation revisions, but were never called “2”, “3”, etc. The meanings are different — like saarek’s grave disappointment over the second-gen AirPods not being dramatically different enough to warrant being a sequel product. Because they weren’t, they were just a newer generation.
You're free to make up your own labels for anything you like however.

As is the editor. And MacWorld. And 9to5 Mac. And MacRumors. And Tom's Guide... All of whom most certainly own iPhones. It's a convenient way to identify which ones are being discussed without spelling out the long-form every time. Apple referred to them as AirPods 2nd Generation" and still does. AirPods 2nd Generation, or as commonly called here and elsewhere AirPods 2 for short. https://www.apple.com/airpods-2nd-generation/
You may prefer to say "AirPods Second Generation" instead of AirPods 2 when you sell yours so that buyers know you're not selling the original AirPods which would be of less value in general. Simply calling both generations "AirPods" might be leaving the question open as to which ones so most will be satisfied if you refer to them as AirPods 2, and you can get more in the listing header by not using so many characters too. Bonus! Trust me, no one will be claiming "you are wrong" or "lying". Maybe eBay buyers are less petty.
When you sold your first pair on eBay did you call them Original AirPods or First Generation AirPods? How did you specify what the bidders were bidding on? Surely not just "AirPods".
Sound quality on the Pro much better than Airpods 2. But again probably not a fair comparison due to the different categories (one being casual use and the other one having active noise cancellation).
First time I put on the Airpods Pro in my car with the engine running, I thought my car engine died. Then I realised it was the noise cancellation...
Definitely recommend it if you have the money to spare and like the minamalistic design..
Anyone found the Airpods Pro falling out an awful lot? Any ear hooks or straps working for anyone?
When they stay in, they're amazing.. but had a problem on a recent flight where couldn't get them to stay in when chewing (over a period of time)... don't know if it's just my ear shape of whether someone has found a better solution to keeping them in.
