New AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max firmware updates are now available

As part of a wide update, Apple has issued new firmware revisions for AirPods, AirPods Max, AirPods Pro, Beats Solo Pro, Powerbeats 4, and Powerbeats Pro.




Expected in the update are Apple's standard performance improvements, and bug fixes. The update also brings support for Conversation Boost for the AirPods Pro.

Announced at Apple's worldwide Developers Conference in June, Conversation Boost leverages microphone beamforming and machine learning technology to isolate human voices. The feature is tuned to focus on a person speaking directly in front of a user, making it easier for AirPods Pro owners to listen during face-to-face conversations.

Conversation Boost can also filter out distracting ambient noise.

All devices get firmware version 4A400.

The new firmware is installed automatically for users, with no mechanism available to manually force an update. As long as AirPods or AirPods Pro are in a charging case and connected to an iOS device, the firmware will install by itself.

AirPods users can check the current firmware for their audio accessories within the Settings app, selecting General, then About, then select the relevant device from the menu.

    Actually...

    To check your AirPods firmware version:

    • Open the Settings app on your iPhone
    • Navigate to the “Bluetooth” menu
    • Find your AirPods in the list of devices
    • Tap the “i” next to them
    • Look at the “Firmware Version” number

    Looks like it shows firmware version by either method.

    Finally an update for the Powerbeats Pro....the very first one. Mine is showing 3A283 instead of 1.0.0.0

    So I have only the standard AirPods but the firmware is showing not what you list for those, but the 3E751 you list for the Pro version. FYI

    And I found nothing under Settings in General, but did under Bluetooth.  So thanks poster Spitbath for that tip.

    Mine updated (Airpods v2) to 4A400 without issue.

    Seems to be an error in the article—it appears to state that the new firmware for the AirPods Max is 3E756, which is the prior firmware. The current firmware for all devices, including the Max, is 4A400.

    It took most of a month if not more for my AirTags' firmware to update. My Powerbeats Pro updated in less than an hour from 3Axxx to 4A394.

    Now for my various AirPods, which are currently at 3E751.

    I got the update on my Airpods Pro and I didn't notice any performance improvements, including noise cancellation.

    It's a poorly written article, I was confused by that too.

    You are right, although the method mentioned in the article only shows the AirPods if they are currently connected. The other method lists all bluetooth devices no matter what their connection status is.

    Mine feel snappier too. 

    Is Conversation Boost automatically enabled? Or is there a setting for it that I’m not seeing?

    edit: I found the setting, if anyone cares…

    1)Accessibility 
    2)AirPods 
    3)Audio Accessibility Settings 
    4)Headphone Accommodations 
    5) Transparency Mode (Make sure “Custom Transparency Mode” is toggled on)
    6)Conversation Boost (toggle is near the bottom of the screen…turn on)

    Now you can quickly access it along with a few extra new features under the Hearing button in the Control Center, including the ability to adjust Transparency Mode Amplification on the fly without having to dig through the settings (finally!).

     Hope this helps someone.

    After a year of using the same AirPods Pro with the same iPhone, I went to use them this morning I got a message that said something like "can't connect to AirPods - please choose 'forget this device'" which I did. My iPhone then said that my AirPods were not my AirPods and instructed me to hold the button on the back of the case which I did. The AirPods then re-paired and worked normally. Weird.

    Anyway, my AirPods still hadn't updated, so I followed the procedure here which updated the AirPods Pro case from 1.0.8 to 1.3.5 and the AirPods Pro to 4A400.
