During the annual Consumer Electronics Show , Belkin has unveiled several new updates to its HomeKit-compatible Wemo line, including an all-new HomeKit Secure Video smart doorbell.

Wemo Smart Video Doorbell

The new Wemo Smart Video Doorbell has a large 178-degree field of view and a 4MP sensor capable of capturing 1080P video. It features enhanced night vision and is powered by 16-24 V AC transformers with 30 VA or higher power.

As it supports Apple HomeKit Secure Video, it can record video to iCloud and will require no third-party subscription to use. Video is analyzed locally by a user's Home Hub. Users are also able to designate activity zones to reduce unwanted notifications. Recording can be triggered by various types of motion, such as people, vehicles, animals, or packages.

Users can install the doorbell themselves, or they can receive professional installation through OnTech, which Belkin has partnered with.

Available to order today in the U.S. and Canada, the Wemo Smart Video Doorbell will retail for $249.99.

Alongside the Smart Video Doorbell, Belkin is doubling down on its support of Matter over Thread. The company is introing new versions of its Wemo Smart Plug, Wemo Smart Switch, and Wemo Smart Dimmer that support Thread and Matter. These will be launching later this year in 25 countries after the Matter standard is released.

Finally, Belkin has just begun the update process for its Wemo Stage Scene Controller to enable support for Thread. The roll-out is in phases with the full deployment expected to be complete before the end of the month.

Recording to your private iCloud account is one feature that grabbed my attention. Thats dope. Recording things to other peoples servers or paying monthly fees are unappealing features allot of these cameras share. I hope the rest of the package is awesome.

This will probably end up being my first smart doorbell. I just think it looks really nice and I’ve had mostly positive experiences with Belkin products in the past. Any idea what material the outer casing is made from? Aluminum or plastic?

On a side note, I do wish that Belkin would hurry up already with upgrading their 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 MagSafe stands to support Series 7 fast charging.

Just wish there could be a wire-free version with HK compatibility. Not everyone can use a hard-wired doorbell.

Tired of these 250€/$ doorbells that force you to subscribe.

In the end I decided to use a 3€ doorbell connected to a 9€ shelly1 which makes my HomePod chime.

I can steam/replay video from my existing cameras if necessary but it’s a lot quicker to look out the window !

Thread is what makes it a lot more resilient to failures in networks and a lot more responsive.

Ever opened Home app and the devices aren't responding? With Thread enabled devices, you won't have to deal with that as they will immediately connect.
