Steve Jobs' Birkenstocks sold for $218,750

A few days after they went on sale, Birkenstocks said to have been on Steve Jobs' feet -- and a NFT of them -- have sold at auction for $218,750.

The shoes, which were expected to sell for up to $80,000, have blown away all expectations.

The brown suede sandals in question were made by Birkenstock, that much is clear. There are many photos of Jobs in Birkenstocks similar to these from the '70s and '80s. But, the full provenance of the main item in the auction is hazy.

According to Julien's Auctions, Jobs gave the sandals to his house manager Mark Sheff. But, Juliens' Auctions didn't confirm that it was Sheff who listed this particular lot.

"The sandals were part of his simple side... they were his uniform," Jobs's daughter Crisann Brennan said in an interview in 2018 about Birkenstocks that Jobs wore. "The great thing about a uniform is that you don't have to worry about what to wear in the morning."

The buyer of the used shoes was not named. Not clear is how much of a premium the buyer placed on "The 213 Most Important Men in My Life" book that was included in the auction, or the NFT of the footwear.

I would guess that includes some Steve Jobs DNA.

    Birkenstock make seriously ugly footwear.

Very comfy by all accounts, as my wife says, but can’t they be comfy and look at least reasonable?

Disgusting! I’m sure if they’re able to find Jobs’ stool sample that someone would buy that too!

I am a huge Steve Jobs fan, but let's face it...  That's disgusting.  What's next, stained undergarments?  Both sellers and buyers of things things need to seek professional help.

Well, the seller should be able to afford some help now.

That's sad.  I wonder if they were his last ones he was truly wearing.  Cause if they were, I just wouldn't sell my wife's last pair of shoes...

They would stay in the closet till I died.  All the other pairs would be tossed but not the last well worn pair.

    :(

Lol. Right? What the hell are they going to do with old shoes for that price? Start a Jobs museum and hope people go and gawk at some old stinky sandals? Ridiculous.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose.
I think of them more like a lovable pet than some sort of fashion statement.

The Birkenstock Arizona style that Jobs wore are great. They’re simple and basic and pleasant to wear.
Their cork base eventually molds to the shape of your foot, so they’re incredibly comfortable.

I’ve worn the same style for years.

    Try some.

Yeah, don't you wish you had the pocket change to spend close to a quarter million for those sandals. The buyer probably dug that out of his yacht’s couch allows.
