Post-apocalyptic drama 'Silo' to debut May 5 on Apple TV+

Apple has shared a trailer for its new 10-episode dystopian drama, "Silo," based on Hugh Howey's best-selling series of post-apocalyptic science fiction novels.

Set in a ruined and toxic future, "Silo" is a world-building drama that explores a society living in a giant underground silo hundreds of stories deep.

According to Apple TV+, "Silo" is the story of the last ten thousand people on earth. They live in the Silo, a mile-deep home that protects them from the world outside. After its sheriff breaks a cardinal rule and residents die, engineer Juliette uncovers shocking secrets and the truth about their home.





Rebecca Ferguson ("Dune," "Mission: Impossible,") will star as Juliette. Rapper and actor Common ("The Chi") will star as Sims, the head of judicial security in the community.

Harriet Walter ("Succession"), Chinaza Uche ("Dickinson"), Avi Nash ("The Walking Dead"), David Oyelowo ("Selma"), Rashida Jones ("Parks and Recreation"), and Tim Robbins ("Mystic River") also star in the series.

Apple signed the order for the series in May of 2021, when the project was initially named "Wool."

    If they can keep true to the “Dust” book series; this could be a very compelling series

    Getting rather tired of the endless series of post-apocalyptic, dystopian movies and shows.

    How about a series where people actually thrive and succeed?

    How about a series like The Martian, where ingenuity counts and is showcased?

    How about a modern Star Trek (or some such) that shows the future in a positive light?

    The Orville is relentlessly positive about the future. It had a rough start, but got pretty good for the second half of its first season and its second season. Some decisions in the third season disappointed me, but it was decent overall. Star Trek: Lower Decks is great, and Strange New Worlds had a fantastic first season.

    Agreed, it might be nice to see some hopeful sci-fi from Apple as well.

    So watch something else, there are myriad other options. Accept that you're not the target audience for this and leave it to those who are excited to watch it.

    I read the WOOL series when it was first released.  Gripping, page-turning sci-fi at its finest.  Very excited about this one.

    There are a million light-hearted TV shows to choose from. ATV+ itself just released a sci-fi one, “Hello Tomorrow!”. Go watch that if it’s what you want. 

    But your claim that well somehow *become* a dystopian society by watching that in TV? Absolute unfounded nonsense. Whewee!

    What other options? LOL there are TONS of shows, the vast majority really, out there that are not dystopian/post apocalyptic. Are you really unable to find anything else? That's definitely a you problem.

    If I did, I summarily dismissed it as the hyperbolic bullshit that it is.
