I’m impressed that they priced it at only $1,299, that’s far less than expected. Only thing now is, why did they keep the 13” MacBook Pro around? It seems silly to buy it when you could just buy the 15” MacBook Air for the same price.
The price of the new 15-inch MacBook Air in Europe is 1600 EUR
Presumably that is including VAT? At what rate? Remember that US prices quoted by Apple are before sales tax as that varies by state.
Yes, it does. VAT here is 21%. How much is it in the US? (if you can provide examples for some states, just to get an idea)

And a reminder, the US price ($1299) quoted by Apple is before sales tax.

Apparently there's "local tax" to consider as well:

Interesting, thank you for these details.

A little off topic, but I just realised that the new MacBook Air desktop backgrounds actually spell out “AIR”. Clever - I didn’t pick them up in the keynote.

How does apple justify charging  +$400 for 1TB ssd storage?  External 1TB drives are like $60...

I agree that Apple charges too much for internal storage. [EDIT: OK, external SSD prices have fallen quite a bit since I last looked!].

Unfortunately, if people keep on paying Apple those prices for internal storage, that's what they'll continue to charge.

Very weird headline.  There is no 'Intel's version of the 15" MacBook Air'.  There is an Apple 13" MacBook Air from 2 years ago that used an Intel processor of the time.  Quite why the current 15" MacBook Air being compared to that machine is seen as meaningful in any way is beyond me.

They sell ~25 million units. Say 10m get that upgrade - 10m x $400 = $4b, mostly profit. These are the areas that contribute significantly to their $90b+ yearly net income. It would be nice if they eased up a little on it e.g $200-300 for 256GB->1TB and $200-300 for 16->32GB RAM.
