An "Astra Carta" seal has been designed by Jony Ive's LoveFrom firm for the UK's King Charles, and aimed at being a call to action for private firms in space-related industries.

Ive previously designed the royal emblem for King Charles's coronation, and this new seal is similarly circular, with a crown toward the top. The Astra Carta seal is subtly animated, however, with stars and planets rotating around the center, as can be seen on the official site.

"We were fascinated by the celestial rhythms that were illuminated during this design process, and how they are profoundly connected to the patterns of life on Earth," said Sir Jony Ive in a statement sent to AppleInsider. "This feels a crucial time to do more to protect the natural universe in the broadest sense, and we are deeply honoured to have been able to contribute to this important and pioneering project."

The seal has today been revealed at Buckingham Palace in London by King Charles. In his previous role as Prince of Wales, he championed the Astra Carta project at 2022's Space Sustainability Summit.

"Inspired by His Majesty's vision," said Jennifer Jordan Saifi, Chief Executive Officer, Sustainable Markets Initiative, "the Astra Carta is a collective call to action that seeks to unite the public and private sectors and other stakeholders in a shared commitment to the responsible and sustainable use of outer space."

Colonel Chris Hadfield, ex-astronaut and International Space Station commander, also consulted on the creation of the project.

"Whether its executing activity in the most sustainable way or leveraging all that space has to offer for sustainability here on Earth," said Hadfield, "the Sustainable Markets Initiative's Astra Carta is a call to action and convenes those best placed to contribute."

Does Sr. Jonny ever do anything significant - you know, designs other than logos and folding paper red noses for charity? Don't get me wrong, even though this is a worthy amalgam of clip art and hip fonts, having done this kind of work myself for years……and for big bucks, I respect the outcome. It's just that Sr. J was once the head of industrial design at Apple, and even though I wasn't a fan of his "function follows form" ideology, he did give us some extremely memorable products.  My understanding is that he has formed alliances with some major corporations, yet all we see (on this forum, at least) are graphic design concepts 101……maybe even 103, but, again nothing really significant. ¿Que pasa?

They entered a multi-year contract with luxury brand Exor, their first assignment being Ferrari:

No idea whether any of that is significant, but I do suppose it's hard to follow the original iMac and the first iPhone for "significance".

Should we ask Sir Jonny or King Chuck whether they think geocentrism is a reasonable representation for the universe, five hundred years after Copernicus.

The continents on the planet are generic.  It would have been interesting if they were accurate and centered on the UK, and how that might be symbolic for future colonialism.  Jony's team took a different approach, and the generic representation of Earth is more symbolic of our species striving as a whole to expand beyond the planet.  The crown needed to sign off on any design, so they deserve as much credit as LoveFrom for this final product.  If you look at this from the perspective above, and consider our space exploration efforts, plans for asteroid mining, and the goals of colonizing the Moon and Mars, I think the geocentrism is appropriate.

Ive killing in both industrial design and graphic design. Look futuristic, yet classic and timeless - like everything he does.

Ive was known for his minimalist industrial design. But this??? If I zoom in, I expect to see the kitchen sink.

There is more astrology to it than astronomy. King Charles is known to be fond of pseudoscience.

We shouldn't be too enthusiastic. Conservation, sustainability, responsibility are often terms that lead to complacency, risk-aversion, shunning of development and adventure, maintaining a fake link to some idyllic past that never existed. I haven't seen the values of this organization, but I am skeptical that it will embrace colonization and development of the Moon, asteroids, Mars, etc. More likely 'they' will want to create 'protected reserves' without extraction, reduced or limited tourism or business, and just a hands-off approach (maybe under the guise of checking to see if their is some 'life' to be protected). More Elon Musk alpha-adventurer, Less King Charles bleeding-heart virtue-signaller.

Why does Jony Ive have to be doing things that you find significant? Dude has done enough, let him make his logos. Many people do far less.

This design is appropriate to the client, and to the purpose.

Perhaps Ive got tired of only doing the stuff you know him for?

To paraphrase Steve's words to Sculley; Jony went from changing the World to making sugar water.
