Tim Cook did the same thing with Biden. Also, why did Wesley coin the President-Elect as controversial? He won in an electoral college landslide and also won the popular vote by over 4 million votes. I’d say the country clearly stated who they wanted. No controversy here folks. Maybe let’s just stick with tech news and not show our biased political views in a tech article.
He's controversial not because he won, but because of who he is and what he believes. There's nothing biased or even political about that. The mountain of lawsuits, assault claims, overt racism, sexism, and indignation for any country that isn't the United States makes him a controversial president.
Saying someone is controversial isn't an insult or attack. It's a simple fact.
That’s your opinion. Many of us believe it was Biden, his family, business dealings, and policies that are controversial in addition to the law fare waged against the former and future President.
We appreciate the articles, but perhaps they can be a little more universal instead than of obviously creating a dividing line.
Literally anyone can be labeled controversial by anyone who disagrees with them. Doesn’t make it so.
When the majority of the country approves of the guy enough to make him president again, it’s not what believes or stands for that’s controversial. Just the facts.
I don't know what to say except words have meaning and you don't have to read our website. It's not biased to call him controversial, but if that hurts your feelings then find an article that will lie and make you feel better I guess.
Totally agree ... the land of 'money, guns, lawyers & celebrities' & they act like its normal. Not to mention any sensible use of taxpayer money & public health care.
Regardless of your political beliefs, everyone can admit that the CEO of one of the world's most profitable companies cannot ignore a leader just because they disagree. It remains to be seen if all of this work will benefit Apple in the end.
I think there’s no way this kind of post doesn’t drift off topic like this, but the story seems like this is an interesting approach by Tim Cook, who recognizes the pressure to participate in this action competitively, but also recognizes the tension with corporate governance, and appears to be trying to insulate Apple from inappropriate corporate governance, but also recognize his personal role in having the connections in relationships to look out for Apple’s best interest. Now, of course there are many underlying currents, tributaries, rapids, and waterfalls, but I think the real story is whether this demonstrates character of corporate leadership and whether this is the right way to go about an exercise like this. Personally I am unbuckled at what’s being brought in here for inauguration sponsorship and envious that I can’t get this type of corporate sponsorship for our low income community Non-profit work. But once again a tangent.
Actually he’s controversial because he’s a traitor, a convicted criminal, a convicted sex offender, a con artist, and a buffoon who makes this country a laughingstock on the international stage.
And yet the country elected him! Go figure! What you wrote is much more of an indictment of the Democratic polices that have been dividing, weakening, and suffocating the country than of President Trump... Looking forward to the next four years.
I imagine Cook looks at any given situation and tries to calculate the effect every possible course of action is likely to have on outcomes he cares about, and then chooses the course of action accordingly. I can see why he thinks this course of action is the least bad option.

The difference is that Harris/Waltz conceded gracefully and not took up arms like in 3rd world country and mount a coup de etat against the House of Congress. Trump is not a buffoon. But a sore loser. And for that I kinda admire his views but find his immaturity distasteful. Also Trump forgets his most ardent supporters. Poor Giuliani is down to living on food stamps and sleeping under a bridge. Trump won't step up to help him.
Poor Rudy? What a joke. The guy edited a video used as evidence to force two innocent people into hiding. Donald Trump has a history of screwing merchants, associated, cities where he's campaigned and decided not to pay for services rendered. The RNC should have covered that, but no. He has said on video that he loved spending other peoples money. He proves that regularly. But yes I suppose if you like for Trump you should get some kind of support.
Prolly shoulda used his pseudonym, Tim Apple. That way Trump would know who to thank.
The reality is Trump certainly knows who Cook is. But he's long used calling people by other than their proper names (and name calling in general) as a way to deny them any dignity of dealing with them on a good day and insulting them on another. "Losers" is a favorite of his.
Totally agree ... the land of 'money, guns, lawyers & celebrities' & they act like its normal. Not to mention any sensible use of taxpayer money & public health care.
The article made it very clear that this is the cost of doing business. Trumpp has made it clear that he intends to impose severe tariffs on China. Almost everyone here is invested in Apple products. If Cook didn't tithe the King business could and would get very tough for Apple. Cook did it out of his own money and not Apple's budget. That other companies are doing the same thing is telling. No one what's their company banished to the cornfield.
If Cook didn't do this with Biden it was because he didn't have to and risk Apple's business by not paying a fair.
And not only did a majority of the country not vote for him not even a majority of voters did. Meanwhile all 12 jurors voted on those 34 felony counts for conviction.
I hope Cook invested $2 million in Biden's inauguration!
The difference is Biden wouldn't be expecting let alone implicitly demanding this tithe. It's really more of a fee than a tithe. Hundreds of companies are paying it and over a dozen are paying $1M. I doubt this was the case with Biden's inauguration.
Presidents do accept donations for their inauguration and it saves us taxpayers some money. It's also a process to curry favor from the president. Trump is said to be paying attention to who gives and no doubt how much. He demands monetary fealty. He's always touting the awesome attendance of is rallies to the point of lying about the number. He has to have the biggest in the history. He lied about the size of is first inauguration and obviously what to be able to say it was the biggest in the history of the US! Which shouldn't be too surprising given the population increases over time. Image is a huge part of Trump's ego.
The difference is that Harris/Waltz conceded gracefully and not took up arms like in 3rd world country and mount a coup de etat against the House of Congress. Trump is not a buffoon.
That difference is only the beginning of his controversy. There is controversy in thinking that a businessman who's had several bankruptcies should be POTUS. He has a history of screwing other over monies owed. This was long before he ran for office.
Trumpp most certainly is a buffoon. To think otherwise means you've never watched his speeches were he just makes up crap as he goes along. By crap I mean "fact" numbers, and incidents that never happened. He does so shamelessly. He stokes the fears, biases, and prejudices of everyone he can, especially the uneducated. He loves the uneducated. He's openly said so.
Though to acknowledge a pedantic point of view, a buffoon is a ridiculous but annoying person, a clown by one definition. Had he not won the election that definition would be apt. He's going to be President and vowed to get go after everyone who opposed him (even though they had legal rights to). There's nothing amusing about that. There is nothing good about him. Nothing. Unless you call being a conman a good thing. Conman is too light a word for his criminality.
It is an objective fact that Trump is controversial. This is a long-settled fact among informed people. What is “FUCK YOUR FEELINGS” about if he’s not controversial?
If your fee-fees are hurt because someone described Trump as controversial, that’s your conscience trying to talk to you. You should listen to it instead of shouting it down.
And not only did a majority of the country not vote for him not even a majority of voters did. Meanwhile all 12 jurors voted on those 34 felony counts for conviction.
Absolutely. All of those complicate in his election, thinking how they're going to be better off than with Biden after ignoring his accomplishments, are going to be disappointed in Trump.. Unless of course you've got a whole lot of money.
To start with Trump's tax cuts will be the same as his previous term. You guy hate class action suits because lawyers get all the money? You won't be happy with over the next four years. We'll get a cursory cut, not even an honorable mention of a tax cut. Rich people will, just like last time. New Grifter in Chief same as the Old Grifter in Chief. Except with a much stronger support staff. When he's gone it will probably be Vance because those who stood by and did nothing instead of voting for Harris/Walz won't have learned their lesson again.
Harris said we have to look into high prices at the supermarket. Some people said 'booo!' Trump vowed he'll lower prices at the supermarket. Some people said 'yaaay!" Trump gets elected and says "It's hard to bring things down once they're up. You know, it's very hard." But hold your breath till it happens because he did say he'd get it done. Yeah like building a wall and making Mexico pay for it. But that's ok. He'll end the war by giving Ukraine to Putin. That should make up for it. /s There is nothing for a good person to admire in him. Any one who didn't vote for Harris/Walz is complicit in the misery of the next many years. But if you've got a lot of money maybe you'll be OK. Trump is Trump First and is party is Party First. The Country is merely a means to their gain.
... why did Wesley coin the President-Elect as controversial?
Why? To add to the so-called controversy, of course!
A conservative journalist would never have written "controversial President." By using that particular adjective, regardless of any truth behind it, a journalist reveals his bias. But you can see that this particular author doesn't deny that bias at all, and is in fact more enthusiastic about what he wrote when question on it, as per his reply stating this:
"The mountain of lawsuits, assault claims, overt racism, sexism, and indignation for any country that isn't the United States makes him a controversial president."
Liberals read the above quote and scream: "spot on!" Conservatives read the same and scream: "more of this garbage?"
Ah... The great American divide. Isn't it glorious?
But at least the article TITLE was free of bias. If the entire article had been written in that way, it would have been better. But honestly, I just came here to see how many were staining their britches after reading it. Sure enough, there are several.
One way to get Americans to tone down their biases would be for every journalist in America to end all biases and just report the news with a straight face, with zero commentary. It wouldn't be popular, but it would be best for everyone.
Regardless of the article and bias, the fact is that Tim knows how to keep Apple an AAPL going strong. As was pointed out earlier, he has kept his company's best interests in mind when a Democrat has been in office too. I think that is a good thing.
With that said, if Cook had expressed the same level if bias and contempt as the article author, Cook would be at war with Trump; and in light of the President's power to setup tariffs AND make exceptions, that sort of war would be a very stupid thing to do. Journalists, in contrast, have nothing to lose and everything to gain by saying controversial things and fanning the passions of their readers. That's a sad fact that boils down to human nature. Readers thrive on negative news and don't care so much for the positive. This is why I don't see things improving in the future. Imagine how bad it will be 20 years from now if the biases only intensify.
