iPhone 17 designs revealed in image backed by multiple leakers

A new image purporting to show CAD renders of all iPhone 17 models has been leaked by one often unreliable leaker, but also now backed by many sources.

Four illustrations of yellow smartphones with blue lenses and dual or triple cameras on blue background.
Purported CAD renders showing the camera layout of all iPhone 17 models

Following the leaked renders claiming to be of an iPhone 17 Pro Max in a MagSafe case, a new single image of the entire iPhone 17 lineup has now appeared. The image, said to be from CAD renders, fits with previous rumors concerning the camera systems on every model including the expected slim iPhone 17.

The leaked imagine appears to have originated with Majin Bu, who is generally better known for repeating the rumors of other leakers. He or she has lately been amplifying other rumors about the iPhone 17 range's rear camera layout, but this time it's other leakers who have been repeating Majin Bu.

Specifically, "Digital Chat Station" said (in translation) that "the appearance of the iPhone 17 CAD drawing is basically the same" as their sources report. Depending on the translation used, "Fixed Focus Digital" is less clear, but with Safari Translation it says that the "CAD drawing restoration is very good."

Fixed Focus Digital's comment may also address why areas of the CAD render are shown in red. This leaker believes that the red parts of the drawing show where the iPhone 17 Pro models will have a back that is partly aluminum, and partly glass.

This claim fits with the now often repeated rumor that the iPhone 17 Pro will switch to glass and aluminum instead of using titanium for its chassis. Other recent rumors say that the iPhone 17 Pro will add reverse charging, the ability for the iPhone to charge other devices.

Rumor Score: Possible

The advent of triple camera iPhones brought us ugly.

If correct, these 17 series models are the new ugly. And they have an extra ration of ugly slapped on for good measure.

They'll go head to head with the new Xiaomi Leica

Ha! Yes, the 15 Ultra isn't a looker either but in the live photos you can see that when held in landscape position it's a kind of tribute to a compact point and shoot.

These iPhone renders would look great in Futurama. Maybe there's a Bender style antenna that pops out of the top to squeeze a little bit more out of the C1.

I like symmetry and I prefer this over the big square of previous iPhone models, going back to the iP12.

Also prefer the smaller 2 camera pill shape over the square or rectangle of the prior models too.

You make it symmetric or you make it sufficiently small as to minimize the asymmetry it introduces.

The red section in the iPP17 models indicate glass? I presume the iP17 and iP17air models have ceramic or glass backs for wireless charging, but they don’t have red sections, so it probably means something else.

I think Moe Sizlak said it best:

"I've been called ugly, pug ugly, fugly, pug fugly, but never ugly ugly."

Oh look! They've installed air bags on iPhone 17! Clever! I guess the gyroscope detects the phone is falling and immediately deploys the bag from that hideous hump. Who says Apple can't innovate any longer?!

Amazon, Bezos' name is on the filing, actually owns this patent. It's been over 10 years now.

However, I thought Apple came up with an idea for pop-out skids or pop-out bumpers to protect a phone during an impact from a drop. I think people would actually be very interested, though they will never admit it, in a technology that prevents phones from dropping into a toilet or urinal.  :D

Nah. My iPhone Pro looks awesome. Nobody cares about this shit except the whiners and haters. They said the same thing about the “ugly screws” on the iPhone 4 leaks, and now it’s considered a timeless classic.

None of those will be what Apple produces. The first, third and fourth are out because of all the wasted space between the lenses and sensor and flash. Apart from issues with case design, the sensor carries out functions in concert with the lenses, and adding space between them would unnecessarily complicate those functions. Item number two is also out, because the flash is moved just off the bump out, complicating case designs, not only for an added hole, but with case bezels potentially blocking the flash from lighting up one side the lenses' field of view.

I think Apple is planning to produce the Magic Loincloth to cover the back side of the phone. You'll have to hold it aside to capture those truly memorable moments that you'll stare at in utter amazement for the rest of your life while you're mumbling "Where did all the years go?" Our something like that.

    Is that a real issue?

It's weird, when Apple builds a product that serves the masses that some other company apes but with some poorly designed feature that has more on paper it's said that Apple only cares about form over function, but when they include better options for photography it's not function over form... and that's a bad thing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The iPhone 5 and 5S lines were the most beautiful iPhones ever made IMO.  I wish they would return the design to something similar if they are going back to aluminum.

It's all subjective but only to a point. I think your 'awesome' looking phone is akin to having an ugly dog. You simply got used to it.

If you go back in time to when the first leaks of the current back-design tri-camera iPhones were rumoured there were people who said Apple would never release that design but that's what they got and they had no option but to swallow hard and 'like' it.

If this design is real (I'm sure most iPhone users are praying it isn't!), some people are going to have to get used to the Google Pixel comparisons too.

The current design has been compared to a stove top. Maybe this new one houses a heater to keep your coffee warm!

Drawing a parallel to a design choice of screws (which are discreet to the point of being invisible to most people) and the overall design aesthetic (which is totally in your face) is stretching things a bit.

My original post was tongue-in-cheek even though I don't like the design at all. However, There is a long way to from a very basic render to a fully polished final design where materials and colour combinations can make all the difference.

We've seen it time and again so all is not lost - yet.  ;)

Along with the lovely notch.  By the way, you'd think with all those lenses that one of them would be for recording in landscape mode while holding the phone vertically.  It's been nearly 20 years and we still have to suffer watching videos as if they were shot through a picket fence.  Not because we like how that looks but because holding the phone vertically is the most comfortable way to hold a phone when recording videos.

Guess, I'll be keeping my iPhone 16 Pro.

These are worse than BMW's M3/M4 grills and that's hard to do!
