After a very brief period of availability cited on Apple's website, Apple has pulled the watchOS 11.4 release.

Apple has released watchOS 11.4

The only notable feature in watchOS 11.4 is a brand new "Break Through Silent Mode" option in Sound & Haptics. This means that if you wear your Apple Watch to bed, sound and haptics will play regardless of whether or not Silent Mode is toggled on.

Previous to this, if Silent Mode was enabled, the Apple Watch would only use haptics as part of its alarm.

Like many of the other OS updates rolling out, the Apple Watch has Matter support for robotic vacuums and mops. Users can use their voice to tell the vacuum to start or stop cleaning, to return to its dock, to enable or disable the mopping function, and to switch cleaning modes.

And, as always, Apple has included a fair number of quality-of-life updates for the Apple Watch, such as fixing bugs and enhancing the system's underlying stability and performance. Updates like these are crucial for maintaining the smooth operation of the devices and ensuring that new features introduced in previous versions operate at their best.

In September 2024, Apple unveiled watchOS 11, introducing several notable enhancements to the Apple Watch. New features included customizable Activity Rings, advanced health monitoring capabilities through the Vitals app, and a new Training Load tool specifically designed for athletes.

The watchOS 11.4 update is build number 22T251.

How to update to watchOS 11.4

  2. On your Apple Watch, open the Settings app

  3. Tap General

  4. Tap Software Update

  5. Tap Install if a software update is available

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions

Just got off the phone with AppleCare and evidently there is no update for the watch. TV, HomePod, phone, iPad, Mac, all updated without issues but I get the message in the watch app on the phone ”watch is up to date with watch OS 11.3.1”

I’m confused - If I go to bed with my Apple Watch on and put it on silent, why would I want to get alerts that I’m trying to avoid with the silent mode?

Was wondering the same thing, unless the article is referring to  an alarm for waking you up in the morning?

It looks like Apple pulled the 11.4 update. Maybe it wasn't supposed to be released yet because something else wasn't ready or maybe there was a bug discovered that needs to be squashed?

I thought Silent Mode silences everything but alarms and haptics. Even Do Not Disturb doesn't silence alarms. If set they go off and you have to silence them. So maybe this toggle does let you prevent alarms from sounding? That would seem to actually make more sense. Same toggle different purpose.

EDIT: I found this (but AI won't let me edit my previous posts)

Most people who wear their Apple Watch to bed either have Sleep Focus enabled or Silent Mode turned on. Both options silence all notifications to not wake you up during the night. This includes alarms, which vibrate instead.

9TO5Mac is reporting that Watch 11.4 was pulled after being listed on Apple's website. So something's up. By the way: gotta wonder why someone disliked your completely anodyne post.

They were an abused child. 9TO5Mac is where I got the info for the first sentence. The second was my conjecture, and yeah, I don't know why that would trigger someone. As you say something's up.

Yes, so an alarm is not silenced.

The break-through silent mode is curious. I have a configured exception in Sleep Focus that lets one contact’s notifications go to my watch while the focus is enabled. My watch is always in silent mode and this one contact’s notifications have always worked to buzz my arm while sleep focus is on. Maybe they’re making the break-through more obvious than it was before.
