I feel comfortable that I'm in my right mind and four weeks, four months, four years ago, and even further back, I knew that this man was as stupid as he's proven to be. In fact, he's probably even more stupid than he's "proven to be." Donald Trump is profoundly stupid. As a con man, he's proven to be an idiot savant, but, first and foremost, he's always been an idiot.
How can a successful con-man be an idiot? If a con-man is an idiot, he cannot succeed even at a basic level, forget about becoming the President of the wealthiest country in the world. May be, there is something else going on behind the scenes as someone else alluded to in this forum - Stock market manipulation at a large scale to get him and few of his friends super-rich in a short period of time. It is a conspiracy theory, but nothing else makes sense to intrepret what is going on.
I believe I used the phrase "idiot savant" in connection with his abilities as a con man. Being able to con people isn't about intelligence, it's about being a sociopath with high level manipulation skills. This is largely instinctive, not a product of intelligence. Or, to put it in more colorful terms, his skill comes from his reptile brain, not his cerebral cortex.

It may be tough for a bit, but it’s necessary. We shouldn’t have allowed everyone to-especially China - to tariff us like they have without responding in kind.

China has been stealing our IP, making our stuff, and forcing our companies to hand over their sensitive data and control to the ccp. We don’t do that maybe we should do that for every country that pulls that on ur companies. The fact that China has so much control over apples data is unbelievable and reaches beyond China to everyone who communicates with Chinese citizens.

With China only getting more aggressive and other countries and the EU following suit, it’s time to nip this before it gets even worse. It’s already been too long.

Maybe some of you aren’t willing to hold off on buying some things for a bit. But I can easily wait a bit in order to get a far better situation moving forward.

It pretty much depends on us. What will we do. Will we buy anyway at exorbitant prices, or will we curb our habit long enough to make a difference.

I’ve been waiting forever to upgrade. Just bought an m4 air to tide me over. I can wait a little longer.

Ultimately I think cook knows exactly what this is about and likely supports it in spite of the short term hit. It’s really the only way to get things back to a fair place where it should be.
It has been remarkable watching the MAGA world parrot this 'it may be tough for a bit, but we must make sacrifices now in order to end all these trade abuses against the US' line. First, few of them were aware of or remotely interested in the issue three weeks ago, and certainly weren't demanding that the government increase their taxes and drain their retirement accounts to get it done (because this is a national emergency!). It's also clear that most still don't actually understand what a tariff or trade deficit even is.

Second, these are the same people who spent two years red-faced and screaming at public officials about their "loss of freedom" caused by being asked to wear a mask to slow the transmission rate of a virus during a pandemic, literally in order to save people's lives. People were dying by the thousands every day in an immediate crisis, and temporarily wearing a mask was just too much. But now, Trump by himself turns a long-term economic issue into a worldwide financial meltdown, and it's supposed to be our civic duty to remain calm, bear the cost, pay more for everything and delay retirement by a few years?

At this point it shouldn't be surprising, but the cognitive dissonance required to hold both of those opinions is truly stunning.

Was Stalin, Mussolini, Hitler, Putin, Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein, and Assad idiots? Depends on how you defined it all were mass murderers, and most ended up being killed in the end, all were corrupt, all were definitely evil, having a temporary advantage and using it to hurt people doesn’t make you smart.
