Beats Cables have launched, with the premium cables from the Apple subsidiary including braided sleeves and a choice of colors wider than Apple's standard options.

Apple and Beats often include cables with their products, with Apple also offering extra cables in its online store. Now, consumers can pick up a Beats version for a bit of variety.

Introduced on Tuesday, Beats Cables are a selection of reinforced charging cables. They use a tangle-free woven design for durability and minimal fraying, as well as giving it a more premium appearance than a typical plastic-coated cable.

The cables on offer from Beats include four color options, consisting of Bolt Black, Surge Stone, Nitro Navy, and Rapid Red. These are a departure from the black and white cables Apple sells, and gives consumers a few more color options to pair with their hardware.

Beats is also selling the cables in two lengths, with a 1.5-meter (4.9 foot) option joined by a 20cm (8-inch) shorter version.

The collection consists of USB-C to USB-C, USB-A to USB-C, and USB-C to Lightning, in a variety of color and length combinations. Pricing starts from $18.99 for an individual cable, rising to $34.99 for two-packs.

Consumers can order the cables now from Apple's website, with on-shelf availability at retailers starting April 17.

An accessory continuation

The addition of Beats Cables to the roster is a continuation of the expansion of Beats beyond audio hardware.

In September, Apple introduced new cases for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, which included a selection of cases under the Beats brand. This was expanded in December with two more color options.

Given the track record of introducing new colors of its products, as well as collaborations with designers and celebrities, it's probable that Beats will follow the same road with its cables, if they are a success.

"Available in four distinct colors, it supports fast charging of up to 60 watts and can transfer data at USB 2.0 rates. For fast, efficient charging, pair the USB-C cable with a USB-C power adapter and conveniently charge your compatible iPhone or other devices from a wall outlet."

Are they really out of their minds? I cannot fathom how they could in good conscience sell such an inferior USB 2.0 data speed with 60W. I've ordered colorful USB4 cables with full 240W/80GB from Amazon.

    This is simply not acceptable.

I mean… most iPhone models (everything that is not an iPhone Pro/Pro Max) are limited to USB 2.0 data transfer speeds. And even the iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max that does support USB 3.0 for data transfer is limited to (if I recall correctly) 30 watts for wired charging. And if you are specifically buying Beats cables to use with Beats products, there are no Beats products that need anything more than USB 2.0/60w.

You can certainly use USB-C 4.0 cables that support 240 watts for use with your iPhone. You can use a Thunderbolt 5 cable capable of 120GB/s and 240w. But for most iPhone users, USB 2.0 for data and 60 watts is enough (can’t make use of anything more than that).

Don’t get me wrong: I would certainly like a non-Pro iPhone capable of at least USB 3.0 data transfer speed (and charging a little faster as well would be nice). Maybe in September Apple will go with USB 3.0 throughout the entirety of the iPhone 17 lineup. I haven’t heard any such rumors, but let’s all hope.

And in terms of price, these Beats branded cables are actually longer than the Apple branded cables at the same MSRP ($18.99 for a 1.5 meter Beats cable vs. $19.000 for a 1 meter Apple cable). Or $17.50 per 1.5 meter Beats cable if you go for the 2-pack. In terms of Apple Tax accessories, the Beats cables are the better value.

In my above comment, the pricing part of my reply was in response to another user (not Netrox). But that reply was deleted. And… deleted for good reason, I think.

Why so expensive? Maybe made in USA too, ah I mean design in CA made in somewhere, sorry Apple don’t make anything here, my bad. But it’s Apple so I’ll buy one. Loved Beats headsets too, the low frequency are amazing…
