Okay lads, here comes the wet blanket (besides the hardware requirements).
It looked spiffy-neat. And, provided the right hardware, playing it will look extra spiffy, but id games have always been flat. (Running from the torch-waving mob). I'm talking about the game-play. And before you go on and say, "Clearly you've lost the point of a First Person Shooter," in my defense, there are a good lot of games that have provided the adrenaline rush of FPS combat and a good story.
For looks and game-play, HalfLife 2 may just steal the prize. (Unfortunately the chances of playing HL2 on the Mac are small).
So Doom 3 may be like much like the Matrix franchise, technically elite but lacking any substance.
Yes, by ID. Of course, the PC and Mac versions may be delayed if ID does an exclusive early release for MS on the XBox, which may happen...
No, MS is trying to have Doom 3 released on Xbox at the same day as the other versions - not exclusively.
But that would also mean a delay because the Windows / Mac / Linux versions can't be released until they finish the Xbox version.
Btw. I wouldn't be surprised if the Mac and Linux version are released later than the Windows version. Activision did it with Quake 3 even though the Mac and Linux versions were ready.

Screed (fleeing for his life -- RUUUNN!!!)
What are you expecting? It's common knowledge that the id games are really for showing their engine.
Yes, games with a great plot are, well, great! I'm sure Half Life 2 will have a very good plot. But Doom and Doom 2 had a near nonexistent plot...did that hinder it's popularity? Nope.
Frankly, Doom 3 is rumored to be solely a single-player game (according to a recent article I read)...it's being created to scare the shit out of people. From what I've seen in the trailer, I think it will scare the shit out of people. The same cannot be said with what I've seen in the Half Life 2 clips.
Doom 3 = scare people
Doom 3 = show off an engine that is without a doubt superior to what I've seen in Half Life 2
Both games have their fan bases. If you want mindless fun simply shooting babies with insect wings and shitting your pants, Doom 3 is it. If you want strategic fun shooting aliens and take yourself in by the story, Half Life 2 is it.
I used to be like you once...hating the games that have no plot. But now I realize that sometimes people don't want or need a plot...eh? *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink* Ya know what I mean, sicko.
Games have had about two revolutions in the past 35 years. First was the Atari 2600. Really it was Pong, but the Atari was kind of like glorified Pong.
Then Doom. There were some other first person shooters before that, like Wolfenstein or Ultima Underworld, but DOOM pulled it all together, even with network play.
After that the only Resident Evil had much of an impact on the game scene, and that was mostly just a crossover of 3-D & Storyline, two genres that had existed for a long time (3-D with Doom and Storyline for much, much longer.)
Although I'm a big DOOM fan (because it's fun and it was revolutionary) and I'm really looking forward to DOOM III, I don't think it's a revolutionary jump. Halflife 2 even less so. This is really evolutionary in every sense of the word. It's great, but not a next step.
Probably 'VR' is the next step. That or Massive Multiplayer Online Games. The technology doesn't seem to be there for either just yet.
I wonder if my Powermac AGP w/ a 1 GHz G4 upgrade and Radeon 8500 would play this beast? Looks downright terrifying....I especially love the way creatures come from all places, under the floors, down walls, ect. Not really much new in the way of gameplay as I can tell, and the weapons seem to be pretty much the same old Id weapons, but I'm still stoked over it!

Well, that's a good point. The gameplay is basically the same as the original Doom and Doom 2 except that, like you said, the monsters can really come out of anywhere.
People have been used to feeling safe pressed against a wall because they knew that creatures can't pass through walls...but Doom 3 takes it up a notch and allows some creatures to bust out of the floor, walls...Carmack even said that some walls are alive and that you wouldn't want to hang around to close to them.
In the video, it was clear that there were monsters capable of crawling up walls and crawling on the ceilings. This kinda reminds me of aliens being able to walk on any surface in Alien vs Predator.
This kind of stuff (monsters popping out of anything) will make the game scarier than ever.

Time to buy a G5 and GeForce FX XXX card.
Love the lighting and the environment. That is creepy.
That door smashing is scary! Is that real-time? It looks like the pre-rendered Hulk trailer! Damn!
I recognize most of the monsters from Doom 1, but what is that dead-baby-demon with wings thing? A new beastie? Cool...
I hate trailers that tell a condensed story ("...then something went horribly wrong..."), but I do like the theatrical feel of the game trailer.
The chainsaw is just plain evil. I love it.
I have been waiting forever, I can't wait no more!
Somebody drive to Texas and shake Carmack's hand!
If this really ships for the Mac I will need to take a week off of work and buy a Keg of beer and play play PLAY!

So far it seems that there is a storyline (unlike Quake 3), but who knows
Any rumors concerning a Mac version of Unreal 2?
