Effects of Backside Cache...

Hi, I hope this doesn't sound too obvious, but what would be the performance difference between what I have now, an 867Mhz Quicksilver G4 with 2MB L3 cache, or a dual 1.25Ghz G4 with each processor having 1MB L3 cache. I'm thinking of upgrading my machine and just wanted to get an idea of the overall speed differences. Thanks

    The 1.25 Ghz G4 will be faster at everything. Cache helps a processor achieve its potential by cramming it full of data much faster than main memory can.

    As I remember, the speed differance between a 1MB L3 and a 2MB L3 cache was about 5% in average (2 to 10% depanding of the app)



    If you put dual CPU instead of single G4, and increase the clock speed by 45%, I don't think a 5% loss because of the smaller cache will change something !
