Aethetically, I could lose the Kensington across the top (although most of the time your hand would cover it). Although, it has a metallic finish, it looks kind of cheap.

The current Apple Pro Mouse doesn't has any button at all, it only had a one mouse click feature.

Anyway. While it's easy to add more buttons and features to a mouse, it's hard to ?design? a multi features mouse that would be as intuitive as the current one mouse click mouse.

As for a new mouse design.

Well... It has been quite awhile since it's been last updated. It would be nice if the design is updated.

As for the need of the Pros for more features.

Well... A second mouse click would come in handy in some cases. A third mouse click would be nice, but it would be kinda too much (and you will be better off with a specialized input device anyway when you reach the third).

Anyway. Before the unveiling of the current Apple Pro Mouse, I once readed something in the old AppleInsider site article regarding a rumor of a ?squeeze? feature acting as a second mouse click that Apple experiment on a prototype mouse. That would be a much better feature than a two buttons mouse.

As for the scroll wheel. Well... I once used it, and I don't like it very much. Yes. It's quite handy for people with very big windows, but I think that the solution below is a much better interface than a scroll wheel.

How many times in an average day do you wish you had a two-button mouse? Is it really that big of a deal? If so...can't you just buy one?

I use mine all day, and I don't think I'm any less productive for it. I've never found myself wanting for another button.

I have the answer. A mouse with NO buttons...with a track pad instead. Still have the intellieye underneath for common movement, but the trackpad on top allows you to tap in say different quadrants for four button use, or to rub up and down in a scroll gesture. Many notebooks have this sort of functionality...there's probably even a mouse out there already.

I use both mac and pc daily and 2 buttons are really nice, especially why you are using flash/dreamwever/photoshop. It's a lot easier to right click than to control click if you ask me. But then again, it's not that difficult to push another button, or to spend a couple bucks on a 2 button mouse.

The option of having one come with your mac would be nice. Maybe have a 1 button mouse ship with imac/emac and have a multiple button mouse come with the powermacs.

The one button vs. two button title bout has been going on forever, and you know why? Its a matter of personal preference. Some people work better with the single button mouse, and defend it very loyally whereas some people work better with a two button mouse and complain that they have to pay extra for it.

Personally, I like both and I can use both and maintain consistant productivity levels. Some apps do go a little faster with en extra button or two (ie: photoshop), but for the most part, I can use the keyboard to activate those modifiers so no big deal.

Also, the OS itself is written to be accessed with a one button mouse (as opposed to Windows where you basically need that right button), so I see no reason why Apple would feel compelled to make a 2 button mouse.

Mac OS is supposed to be easy and uncomplicated. A two button mouse spells complication.

As to an iMouse/ProMouse situation, I'd like to point out that the ProMouse shipping with apple computers is a lot of things that the mice shipping with PCs are not.

They are optical, they are ambidextrous, and they re harder to break.

If they did go to an iMouse/ProMouse situation, they would have to make the iMouse cheaper, not just less expensive, to justify it, and I dont think that is something Apple will do.

Ahh I adore the 1 button mouse, both the newer ones and the puck ones (so cute hehe). If you use a scroll wheel on a pc mouse, you'll prolly miss it a little on a 1 button. BUT think about it, just keep one hand on the keyboard anyway, thats what I do all the time really for typing thus up/down arrows are scroll and you have modifiers just a little to the left. Simple but if it really is such a huge deal you have to rant on a message board about it just go and buy another brand I wouldn't mind apple releasing a full metal mouse yumyum, any company do those?

If you bothered to read this far down you might as well read what I have to say. Gateway, Dell, Compaq, HP, etc. All use the same design mouse and keyboards year after years. When the P4 came out did the that require some new crazy concept? In fact, they are still with the old 'mice with balls' instead of optical. I don't think Apple has to come out with anything new in this department. They work very well and stand up to abuse over a long period of time. With the exception of stupid "quick launch" keys on PC keyboards I don't see anything new in this dept. on the HP I'm typing this on. So why grip about Apple's very GOOD 1 button optical mouse and stylish pro keyboard. I'm with the first couple posts that say, "Shut up and buy a Kensington". (Heck to be a mac person is to use 1 mouse button and simply be a better more efficient user of that one button.) To desire a multi button mouse makes folks sound like "ready to go PC-postal". I expect this is the same group of complainers who MUST have Virtual PC to run some twisted game they have 'always wanted to play' instead of just staying true to the Mac. All hail the 1 button mouse. Hurrah! Hurrah!

I'd like to see Apple start shipping Macs with two-button mice too, but even more, since it's not that much money to buy another mouse... I'd like a second button on the trackpad of my TiBook. Many times it's not convenient or practical to plug in an external mouse, and many of those times I find myself wanting to right-click, but I have to settle for an awkard two-handed gesture of using the control key along with the trackpad.

I'd divide up the current large button into two sections, with the right button being about one third of that area, or half the size of the left button.

    About the graham cracker...

    [quote]

A graham cracker is a sweet rectangular cracker made with whole wheat flour, originally invented to keep boys from masturbating.

    <hr></blockquote>

Yeah- it's a great story. Graham was a religious wacko in the 19th Century... more info here:

I opened this thread to look at the chances of a new designed mouse and keyboard...

NOT to fight over apple offering a one or two button mouse...

Instead of using a grahm cracker to stop masturbating, maybe a one button mouse would work? Since you need TWO hands instead of one to do many functions with a one button mouse. As long as both hands are occupied, then masturbating is more difficult (although I suppose rubbing up against the desk isn't out of the question).

WIRELESS mouse & kybrd is a big deal. The number of buttons isn't. I want wireless external speakers as well. Any questions?

Apple seems to like BlueTooth, so why not at least a wireless mouse and keyboard?

    I too, vote for a 2 button/scroll.

So a two button mouse is better for masturbation? and that's why all those people have been buying pee cees!

Well that's the most valid reason I've heard yet...

    <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" /> Are more MHz also better for masturbation? <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />
