iChat without .mac account?

Is it possible to use iChat without a .mac account? I don't have one since I can't see paying $100 for just server space to backup my files. The other features I wouldn't use much - as far as I can tell.

Yeah, all you need is an AIM account.
Actually, if all you want is Rendezvous chatting, you don't even need that.

Yes, you can creat a free AIM account and use it.
