THe Mac OS X tab on apple.com that used to be a hideous leopard/jaguar-print is now metallic, but a darker, less textured metal than the .mac tab

Yep, second-class citizens we are compared to those who purchased G5s. What gives with that? You ordered a G5 months ago, I ordered a PowerBook weeks ago, you get 10.3 at a discount, I don't. Apple, Apple, Apple. Piss me off, why don't you.

So that means they ship them out on the 24th, or you could potentially have it in your paws direct from the FedEx/UPS guy on the 24th?

Oh, and BTW, the 24th is my birthday. Yeah!

So, does anybody know if G5 owners have to order online and pay the $19.95 S & H, or walk into an Apple Store with their receipt and get a free copy?

Selfishly this makes me very happy. Even with whatever conversioin they give from $US to $CDN this easily undercuts the academic pricing that I was all ready to pony up for.

Now, if Apple would just get to fixing the Up-To-Date link for Canadian customers. It's here, but if you click on the non-Apple Store link it asks you to enter a state rather than a province and it will not accept Canadian provinces. Now, if you choose the French link, you get a province option, but it is only for an Xserve. even though the link says it is for the G5. I give them until the end of the day

For the life of me I couldn't find any info to back that up.

Looks to me like a US$19.95 upgrade. \

Hey, you're right: they've changed their language. No longer are we just paying for shipping, but part of the $19.95 actually goes towards the product !

Yeah, whatever. Still a heck of a lot cheaper than recent new aluminum PowerBook purchasers get if for. I'm totally baffled by this policy.

Well, the Canadian link now works, but ordering from Apple has provided me with some comedy gold: they say that the $29.00 (CDN) I have to pay is, in part, to cover shipping...yet they then have you pay for shipping on the item since it is a sub-$100 purchase from the Apple Store! Genius! You even get to choose between regular and expedited (I decided to splurge and pay the extra 4 bucks for the premium option, which added $10 to my total).

Now, the PDF link for the G5 upgrade mail-in form is still dead, but the regular form just charges the upgrate cost plus tax (in in the States). I figure that I should get Panther faster this way, but, still, I wonder if Apple might recognise how foolish this seems. Gave me a nice laugh though!

And for anyone wondering, the estimated time to ship is 8 business days.

Damn. No Halloween kitty-in-a-box for we the Mac faithful. Better earlier than later though!

Oh well. I was sorta close with my predictions (7B94 and Halloween). I have officially achieved "SEMI-CONFIRMED* status for all my future predictions. I feel so proud... maybe Macrumors will use me a source from now on!

Apple would like to give you the opportunity to upgrade to Mac OS X Panther v10.3. Customers who purchased a qualifying new Power Mac G5 (M9020, M9031, M9032) on or after August 16th, 2003, that does not have Mac OS X Panther v10.3 included can upgrade to Mac OS X Panther v10.3 for the cost of shipping the product to you.

Of course Steve, your realize this means war.

I would like to meet someone who bought one before August 16th (wasn't the expo like the 22nd or something?). And that last part is just plain untrue. Panther costs $19.99 "shipping and handling", then they charge you for shipping on top of that. Unless there is a $20 rebate coupon in the box, I just paid $20 for my upgrade.
