I think a cool commercial would be to simply show it from the front, where it'll look like most other computers or vaguely like the original iMac.

Have the voiceover (Gillian Anderson, no less...see my bitchin' thread elsewhere in these forums where I overhaul Apple's marketing with the aid of the sexy Ms. Anderson... ) talking about iTunes, iMovie, Firewire, etc. (basically, everything BUT the LCD-based design).

As all the talking is going on, the iMac begins to rotate slowly to the left (or right), stopping at 90º for a dead-on side shot, emphasizing what's NOT there.

Then maybe a clever tagline (either spoken or text on screen) that drives the point home about the new LCD-based design (something about "good things in small packages" or "slimming down for the new year" or whatever.

Type: "The new iMac. $1199." (or whatever the hell the price is...I'm trying to be optimistic! )

    Apple logo and "Think Different."

    Fade out.

    That would be nice.

    How about...

A current iMac sitting on a table.

A woman walks by fresh from her workout.

She returns back into the frame and takes a critical look at her iMac.

She picks up a CD/DVD and we see that it says

"The New Slimmer and Trimmer You!"

She inserts it into the slot.

We pan into the screen and a workout video comes up.

At the end of the quick video the coach says "Now don't you feel better?"

We pan back out to reveal the new thin iMac and do a quick 360.

The Woman smiles wistfully and says "I wish it was that easy for me."

A small legal disclamier comes up and says "Putting a workout CD/DVD will not really slim down your iMac, but who knows? Did you try?"

    "Think Really Different"

    HMMMMMM......?

Wow, THAT is a great idea.

I really like the concept of starting on a shot of people working out (especially if it was a scene from a current DVD). Anyway, the announce talks about all the fast processor and all the features as the camera pulls back to reveal the workout shot is movie playing on the screen of an iMac.

Then, it rotates 90-degrees for the stunning profile shot as the annoucer says "Presenting the all-new iMac flat screen. Gain the muscle. Lose the fat."

(Oh, and uh, nothing personal pscates, but please anyone but Gillian Anderson.)

wow, everyone's ideas here are absolutely amazing... i think a good track to go along with some of the ad's would be Crystal Method - Keep Hope Alive..... great techno, and could have an underlying message to the viewers

Yes, isn't that funny? A bunch of guys on an online message board, completely HALF-ASSING it, are casually tossing out better ideas than anything Apple has kicked out in two years.

    Amazing.

I'd be happy to see just about all of the ideas above. The worst of them still trumps "Middle Seat", "Rip, Mix & Burn", the G4 tank ad and the Goldblum stuff.

You're right, these are some great ideas. The boys making the big coin churning out Apple ads right now could really learn a thing or two by hanging out at AI.

    Wow, whooda thunk it.

RECREAT or RECREATE to go along with PROCREATE. Recreat goes along with recreation, but Recreate would go along with recreate ther iMac.

    Woman enters tiny, crowded apartment.

She weaves through chairs, boxes, assorted junk to reach her desk.

A new iMac sits on the small, cluttered desk.

She sits down, pulls out a DVD, and puts it in the iMac.

A movie with vast, expansive scenery begins (Out of Africa or Dune).

She relaxes in her chair and smiles.

Tagline: "The new iMac. Expand your horizons."

For all of you who really "loved" some of the recent apple commercials, you should perhaps check out <a href="http://www.sleeplessknights.com/Pages/ibrator.html"; target="_blank">http://www.sleeplessknights.com/Pages/ibrator.html</a>; Once you're there, click the link for the theatre to see their take on apple's commercials. This site has been around quite awhile, so it's probably not new to a lot of people, but if you haven't seen these spoofs, you should

I love this idea!! It is simple, elegant, and also fun. However make it a college student. God knows that they are far from clean.

    try this peeps:

two astronauts in heavy space suits, their faces hard to see, separated, one in the ship parked on this dark planet, the other exploring the misty corridors of a strange structure, hard to tell what's what. As we go to and fro the two characters, we see thru their headgear one is older, the ship officer, the other younger, the explorer, the explorer's view showing on the officer's LCD screen.... 'What is that?' The explorer knocks things about a bit.... 'Gee, they're abandoned old CRTs! Evidence of an advanced civilisation!' 'Well, sir, pretty backward if you ask me...!' -

and we pull back to reveal we're actually watching a movie in iMovie 3 on OS X, operated on an LCD iMac by the 12 year old 'explorer' and his 'officer' dad..... in the attic of their home, a dead CRT visible behind them with other junk assembled around it as we saw it in the movie.... the youngster says 'Not bad, Dad, but let's try this...' - a couple of clicks is all it takes for him to load a clip of himself pointing at the CRT, with a flash of lightning from his fingers frying the CRT!

Dad can't help but be impressed - Say Hello to iMac 2. Cool Tools for the Cool Generation.

    Keep em coming folks! :cool: <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/ubb/cool.gif"; target="_blank">http://forums.appleinsider.com/ubb/cool.gif</a>;

How about this... Starts off looking like a pentium add with those aliens.

All of a sudden the camera zooms out-outside of the ship (which happens to be caosting along slowly).

a smaller ship flys straight through the pentium ship. The camera does a warp effect then catches up to the faster ship. (speed shown by stars that are blurred in a star wars fashion). Inside the faster ship you have a? um well i don't know, something cool happening that shows off some new apple product. (any idea's anyone?)

How did you actually find out those Pentium ads were made on a Mac? Or is it just "I heard from a guy who heard from a guy..."

If it's true, it's absolutely awesome.

lol, the funny thing is thats probably true, and if not I'm sure macs were used SOMEWHERE in the development

macs have a knack of appearing in PC dominated places.

I like the idea of that steven kid saying "dude your getting a dell" and then the kid crying

and the aliens with turntables, cuz we need more alien turntablists Skiznoid just isn't enough
