Use Interface Robustness?

I noticed there is a Use Interface Robustness option in the airport menu.

What does it mean? Is it a good thing?

Also, how can I tell if the wireless network I'm connected to transfers at 802.11g or 802.11b?

Steve.

That's interference robustness. You use it if you have interference in the area, such as a 2.4GHz cordless phone.

oh, woops. I guess english is not my first language!

should I just keep it always on? I live in a uni dorm so I don't know if i have interference. Will it make it slower when it's on?

I believe it will. AFAIK, it's something you try when you are having problems with your connection. If things are fine, no need to use it.

Come to think of it, I never have.

English is my first language and I've always wondered about that because I thought it said interface robustness. Guess I never really took a good look and just assumed. Maybe I had it on and that is what caused my connection weirdness at greater distances.
