Scholarships...and Uncle Sam's Cut of the Deal
I just finished getting my tax return ready for this year...and I know I shouldn't really be upset, but I am.
This is the only country in the world where one can
1) Work their butt off to pay their way through school in scholarships
yet
2) Pay more taxes on said scholarships and thus more overall (including income from other jobs which isn't even over $6k) than many married couples this year thanks to G.W.'s interesting tax cut wizardry.
I know we have a respected quality of education here in America, but every time I think about paying taxes on the money I receive that ultimately goes back to the state in the form of my room and board payments to the university, it makes me a little hot. But it's ok...just two little paychecks from my job gone.
...every time I see one of these absurd commercials for tax preparation services and the people enjoying their "refunds" I writhe...and then turn to finish schoolwork, and realize that I've entered the bureaucratic nightmare that is our government. Meh.

No, just say goodbye to government waste.
