Why Doesn't the mini work with the Voice Recorder and Media Reader?

I have a friend convinced to go get a mini, but then she saw that the media reader and voice recorder (from Belkin) won't work with the mini? Why not?

Doesn't the mini use the same dock, connections and essentially the same software/hardware as the full-sized iPod? Why won't these items work with the new mini?

Because Apple didn't write those capabilities into the mini software. It's their choice to differentiate the models into a more "pro" and "consumer" line up. My guess is that when the mini's storage capacity increases, so will its capabilities.

The hardware from Belkin was specifically made for the regular iPod. Also, the mini uses a different version of PortalPlayer. I don't believe that Apple doesn't want those features. They will come when the third party hardware is ready. The assumption that k squared posts is just that, an assumption.

maybe we can have someone with the minipod put it into diagnostics mode and see if it has the recording feature.
