I would like radio. There is more than "commerical poop" out there.

I also want my starting volume feature back. I've blown my ears out a couple times by forgetting to turn the volume down after using my iPod in the car. Ouch!

Radio would be cool especially if you could record radio.

I think radio is just behind a built in mic on the list of improvements to the ipod, now that we have a remote and Audible playback.

Agreed. I record XM radio to my PowerMac and then take it with me on my iPod. Awimoway is a happy lion.

I DO! I dunno but it seems essential to me. I live in nyc and if something happens i want my trusty ipod to keep going for hours providing me info in emergency situations. A radio is important fo emergencies/news and of course RON AND FEZ which sadly will no longer be in new york but FM would be nice.

I personally would like to see the 5 gig ipod drop to at least 199 with a radio. That'd be nice i think. Anyone have any idea when an update or price modification is due...January seems logical given apples history of ipod updates.

I agree with O and A about the radio. I would like to have it for emergency situations as well as wheather reports, with occasional radio music.

I would also love to see a mic on the next iPod. I can't count how many times I could have used a small, portable, non-tape, non-crappy sized memory IC/whatever, voice recorder.

A third thing I haven't seen mentioned and I don't know what would take to add to the iPod is the ability to enter text. Not for anything lengthy, just notes. Perhaps something like an on-screen keyboard and use the jog wheel to select the characters. (Yes that could be slow and tedious, that is just the first thing that came to mind -- pda style)

PRICE! 20 gig ipod shipping for 670 euro or so around these parts... how much does a 20 gig HD cost? Not to mention a processor that has such limited requirements that it is probably ten years old already. A little wiring here and there, a scratch-magnetic surface...

I have no idea where you are shopping but I bought a 20 GB iPod for 649 euro.

A 20 GB drive of the iPod's form factor is expensive even in bulk. It would be somewhere around $250 (give or take) and that is in bulk.

The processors are similar to those used in a number of portable embedded devices and given there are 2 are far more powerful than anything you will find in most similar products. Do you really expect they are going to put a high end desktop processor in there? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

If you really think it isn't that complex and you can beat the price just go buy some components and build yourself one They'll drop the prices in time but I'd count on them adding more features first.

FM radio? Easily my most missed feature.

    NPR.

CNN at the gym (it's broadcast on FM).

The commercial pop can take a flying leap for all I care, but I like my newsfeeds.

iPod needs a USB for digital cameras. I also agree with an FM tuner, mic, and color screen for video playback. Maybe all of these features along with a scheduler can be made into a PowerPod and keep the basic features (plus a USB) on a new iPod.
