well, some of them don't and have never played with X on a superfast machine....therefore they don't have anything to compare it to.

I have run Jag on a 600mhz ibook, it was not bad until I used a 800mhz Imac, then going back does really suck

Well, not the low end iBook: US store 3-5 days, Finnish 6-8 days still. And that was not the case a few days ago.

Actually, it was true for the low-end iBook yesterday, but not today.

    Things are looking up...

(I just hope the new models will ship right away.)

[quote] Where do you need processor power? iBook is enough powerful for www & emails & writing docs etc.. <hr></blockquote>

Um, OS X aqua interface. OS X is still slow and needs all the horsepower it can get.

Too bad Apple is in this quandry: they make an OS that needs horsepower at the same time that they are having issues making a faster chip. Too bad for us.

Yep. People satisfied with iBook performance have too much spare time on their hands! The new 700mhz ones with QE are leaps better than the first iceBooks with only 500mhz but still ridiculous. Apple BETTER have some kickass plans, or their Switch campaign will never work. PC people don't CARE or arent' smart enough to see the subtle Mac advantages. I just got a girl to get an iBook yesterday because she likes how OS X is "colorful." At least she sees past mhz. Most guys won't... So if Apple doesn't release 1ghz PBG4's next week, and at LEAST 800mhz iBooks, their Christmas sales are going to be crap. The Switch campaign seems to have been timed terribly. They should have started it right about now so it would be in full swing come the beginning of next year (I'm wistfully hoping for all new hardware for most if not all lines sometime next year)

check out the latest article at <a href="http://www.macrumors.com"; target="_blank">www.macrumors.com</a> - looks like ibooks are on the way.

They're just guessing. And SuperDrives are the dumbest idea ever. Honestly, who burns DVDs? I'm poor, so I strongly dislike the fact that I need to buy superfluous media capabilities when I want a faster iMac. The BTO flexibility on the iMac sucks. Adding a SuperDrive to the PB is ok as long as they don't MAKE you buy it to have the fastest CPU. If they do add a SuperDrive I'm sure they will though, Apple being it's usual stupid, short-sighted self

They should add monitor spanning to iBooks, especially in light of the recent firmware hacks.

More VRAM would also be nice, as Quartz Extreme chews it up. A Radeon 7500 (32MB) for the iBook and a 9000 (64MB) for the TiBook would be nice.

bigger and sharper screen, 1Ghz 750fx, radeon 7500 w/32mb, lose .3 inches in depth and shed a pound. Include a scroll strip. I would buy in an instant.

I haven't played with a QE-enhanced iBook, so I don't speak from experience, but I am in the camp of Keep-the-G3-and-ramp-up-its-speed-to-the-limit-while-letting-the-graphics-card-do-the-fancy-work. (Even if that means a faster mhz than for a PowerBook.) As long as QE makes OSX feel "snappy" who cares if it doesn't have Altivec and you can't play Unreal and edit video as fast as a desktop.

The iBook is about being a portable iMac - simple, inexpensive (at least it should be), cute and "snappy!"

In the spirit of co-opting the theme of this thread and going into a wishlist....

I like Imergingenious' suggestions, except I think the 12" is a nice size! Also it would be nice if Apple laptops had a way of allowing the iPod and the (hopefully) growing number of iDevices to mount onto the iBook itself without needing wires...a dock of sorts.

    edit for spelling and grammar...ugh.

Ok, seriously thinksecret has reported on the November 5th update of both the PBs and iBooks... as well as a price drop. They don't go as far as to speculate on price or most features. Let's just hope for iBook monitor spanning

BTW: Think Secret jumped on the <a href="http://www.thinksecret.com/news/nov5portables.html"; target="_blank">Nov. 5 bandwagon</a> this morning. I have quite a bit of confidence in TS's reporting and do believe that we'll get bumps to both 'Books. I agree that there is no way we'll get SuperDrives, especially not in the iBook. They don't speculate on Mhz but say there is a "very good chance" that we'll get Bluetooth on "all models." That would sure be nice.

True...I agree, but somehow I'd be very surprised if they did anything to the keyboard typography.

I can't see that as being one of the more demanded changes by users.
