Come on, guys. We're now talking about 'nuts' for an iMac design...

Come on, we KNOW it's going to be a glorified 17 inch alu studio display...

    ...right?

(and no, they won't use aluminium for the consumer line)

This baby is sitting right on my desk, but ... pssssssst ..

That is sort of what I'd like to see. Cool, clean, with a matching 17" LCD on top.

Kind of reminds me of a Quadra 700 - a beautiful little box.

I think an iMac should have a face.

I really like that design, very nice

I'd like to see an iMac with a 23" screen, but i guess they won't go that big in a consumer product?

I'd like the screen to be an option - so you can choose 15", 17", 20", 23" etc.

Or you could use any old monitor if you prefer.

How many people would buy the base unit for, say, £600, and use an old monitor, but then at a later date add an Apple screen for another £300?

That's how it used to be with the Quadras, Performas etc.

When you look at the size of the Quadra 700 next to the G5 tower you realise what monsters they are.

    Thanks - you inpired me!

How about a smaller base unit - with a separate PSU like the other ideas on this thread:

Vox Barbara and lucida: I really like the white mockups better than the Aluminum/ACD-based ones. IMO, this latest one, with the LCD larger and the base unit smaller, is the best.

Let's hope Apple gets the price right too!

    Thanks!

    It's something I'd pay £999 for:

    17" LCD

    1.8Ghz G5

    Superdrive 8x

    120GB HD

    512MB RAM

    Radeon 9800 (swappable)

    2 x FW

    1 x FW 800

    3 x USB 2

    Bluetooth and Airport Included

Me too, Mr. Escher! It needs a little refinement, though, takeing a hint from the iBook: round the corners even more.

Make it look like a closed inflated 12" iBook. Give it a high-gloss painted-from-the-inside finish similar to the first 2-USB-iBooks with some aluminium accents. Let it have the looks of a bigger "lunch-box" to accomodate a G5 and the necessary cooling.

The slot-loading optical in the front center is ok with me, how about the powerbutton and one USB and Firewire port, too, on the same height to the right. And how about getting rid of the "iMac G5" signature?

Maybe one of you PhotoShop/Illustrator/FreeHand-whizards can help me out and do a little mockup?

I really is starting to look like a regular compter...

Could you get rid of the holes, curve the edges even more and make it a thiner yet a little bit wider?

Are the ports shown in the right proportion relativ to the optical drive's slot?

The "WOW" effect comes when you actually are looking into the face of that thing, really. I can imagine its sheer beauty indeed (But i would drop the front holes either, too much of a computerish look)

Look, when i first saw pics from the original imac (bondi rev. A), i thought:

oh no, that's all about that fuzz, actually it is a "Captain Kirk enterprise star trek movie computer"??? But when i covered that machine in reality, i changed

my mind completely. The machine was a miracle, especially for the time beeing

Was the mock-up above supposed to be an AIO design? I thought the "box" was the headless iMac with an iCinemaDisplay...

Yes I would prefer a headless Mac with a matching screen.

Don't know if it would be classed as an "iMac" though...

Maybe the Apple screen could "dock" with the base unit without wires...?
