I am looking for a good reliable freeware or shareware piece of software for taking audio tracks from my DVD singles, so that I can add these tracks to my iTunes collection. Any recommendations? Thanks
I use 0SEx to yank whatever part of the DVD I need. The audio will come out as AC3/DTS/etc. and you can find an appropriate converter from that format to something like .wav or .aiff that iTunes can read. Then just use iTunes to smash that down to an AAC file or whatever you like to use...
It takes a while and lots of disk space, but you can pretty much just set it up and let the machine chug away for a while.
Caveat: these all seem to work with DVD video discs. I don't think that anything out there can rip DVD audio discs (the ones with [possibly multichannel] 24bit/96kHz audio in MLP [Meridian Lossless Packing] format). Just like I'm not aware of anything that can digitally rip SACDs. With those two high resolution formats you have to use the analog loophole (e.g. record off of the line out); there are precious few DVD-A/SACD players that even output a digital bitstream of the high resolution audio and even those all use proprietary encrypted means. All by design, of course, since those formats are awfully close to the master tape.
Thanks for the links, I'll give that a whirl. It is just DVD-Video singles which I have, not fancy DVD-Audio or SACD discs, since they haven't really caught I yet as far as I've seen.
Thanks for the links, managed to get that one to work with one DVD which I couldn't copy from before, but I am still struggling with a few other DVD single. Any other apps worth trying? Thanks

You'll need to use a program like mAC3dec to conver the ac3 files to a stereo file.
You can get it here.
