ipod trouble

Hello, i bought my iPod last june, and a couple weeks ago i noticed the side cracked open, it looks like the metal part on the back is coming off. this happened to friend of mine and he snapped it back in, i snapped the other side back on on mine, but one is still snapped off. im just wondering if i can return my iPod or if theres some way to help this. Also has this happened to anyone else?
