New Cinema Displays at WWDC
I was looking at Apples line up of displays and I couldnt imagine having a larger than 30" screen monitor. I don't think Apple will go larger than 30", but if they do, it will most likely be 32", possibly 35"(?). I think the key thing will be a major (or significant at least) price cut. LCD monitors are getting a lot cheaper. If i would have to guess, Aples 20" display will drop down to $599-$699. This would be a great break though for prices, and would make perfect sense for Apples Mac Mini Users. Apple needs to provide a monitor that Mac Mini users can afford -- a $599 price tag is getting there, and they might also introduce a smaller screen size model (although not likely), for instance, 17", for in the $399-$499 range.

IMHO, with the "Year of HD" Apple might intend to have such a monitor in the living room as well. Why not.
It would be nice to have price cuts as well.
Let's hope so!

hmmm... I'm not so sure many "professionals" would really want such a display. Notice that, even on the finest LCDs, when looking from an angle the colors are not reproduced correctly. Going bigger than 30" you would have to sit at a distance from the screen or the colors will look very unconsitant. At least with current technology.
Basically, if you really need more space than a 30" can for work, go buy another and run dual displays. Going beyond 30" at the moment is probablyy more a geek dream (

Well, that's your opinion.
I know many people who would love to have a bigger monitor, specially to work in programs like FCP, After effects and 3d. This is not going to be a monitor for the average Joe. Some people don't like the idea of dual monitors.
Apple could market to the home entertainment crowd that today are buying displays bigger than 50".
Regarding color accuracy if that is crucial for your work then you'll need the finest CRTs. LCD are not yet good enough for it.
Question: Samsung is rumored to soon have a 30 incher. Anyone with info, links? Thanks.

for your notes gang, I just bought a dell 20" wide screen for my home office after reading rave reviews at macintouch, and it's amazing. I bought it for $470 shipped last month, my partner just bought a bunch of them at a dell website special yesterday for $370!!!! There 24" is well under $900. I'd love to see those guys roll out a 30". I've always owned Apple or LaCie monitors, and am planing on getting a 30" just because it's freakin' amazing and i have budgeted money to spend, but the Dell deals are trully outrageous. I just put a bit of black tape over the dell logo and i'm good to go!
How do you get the sub-$900 deal on the 24"? They have it at $1120 on the dell website...

I still think that the price on the Apple Displays will be cut...Apple can't compete with the rest of the market if they don't. The prices they are running on are year old or more prices for LCD monitors. Also, remeber, cheaper LCDs would help sell the mac mini and vice versa

you never pay what dell has listed. What you do is go to deal sites like dealnews.com, bensbargains.com, slickdeals.net, etc. and watch for the coupon how-to's that show you what coupons to apply. An associate just bought the 24" Dell for $870 shipped last week.
Thanks for the inside story. I too read that someone bought a 24" for $870.

Yeah, The Dell prices are very nice.
But,
is the monitor cheap looking?
are the specs as good as Apple's?
If that's the case, I'll also considering buying 2 Dell's 24".

I'll second that one. And I want a voice interface. Talk to the wall & it does what you want.

As others have mentioned, the bigger the monitor, the more the tendency to place it farther away, making everyday things like reading text more difficult.
This will be solved by the advent of the resolution-independent GUI.

So you want a bigger display that you have to move further away so the text have to be larger?
Exactly where is the benefit in that?

Depends on what you use the computer for. I use it to make art. I feel like a slave tied to a keyboard & a chair, a short distance from a small screen. I'd rather roam about the room talking to a magic wall of light that does my bidding. Imagination is important to some, & unimportant to others.
