Okay, like I said earlier, let's keep talk of war down to a minimum here. Are we at war now? No. Might we see war tomorrow? Maybe. Do we have new iPods now? No. Might we see new iPods tomorrow? Maybe.

If Apple has been aiming for tomorrow as a release date for new software, hardware, or anything else for that matter, they will release it, war or no war. It's just an iPod bump, not a new Power Mac G5 launch.

Plus, if the news has it right, Bush is going to give Hussein a slim window to go into exile. So that might delay war a day or two any way.

    I disagree.

I think Apple would postpone an announcement for a few days or a week due to the Iraq situation. They do usually (always?) wait until a Tuesday to announce, afterall. Surely not everything they make just happens to be ready to go on a Tuesday. If they're willing to schedule their announcements to come on Tuesdays, they obviously don't take a "whenever we're ready" approach. The question is will they take the huge news about war with Iraq as competition with their own news. Hmmm... that, I'll concede, is a matter of opinion, but it's certainly a possibility. My opinion is that they definitely would take that into account.

Not quite. Regardless of when the service and new iPod are announced, Teddy will still have been wrong.

Does anyone remember the iTunes Rendezvous demo SJ did at MacWorld SF? What the h3ll happened to that? Is that going to be incorperated into this music service?

I would like to hear what some of you guy's are listening to right now through Rendezvous?

Actually, I think it would be freaking awesome if we could exchange an iTunes Rendezvous address, and if we are online we could hear what that person is playing at that moment, or choose to hear something else that person has in their shared iTunes library.

Maybe it's just me, but I think this would be easier than downloading most most of a CD to see if I think it's worth buying.

I highly doubt we will see new iPods this week, next week, or the week after that. If we do, the music service will still be announced separately in April.

Starting April 8th, the chances for iPods/music service increase significantly over the next three weeks.

I've really got to say that I disagree with you here.

Why release something that will get zero attention since people are very much focused on something else? Delay a week or two, as this war will probably (hopefully) be a fairly short war and then release. Then people will be much more likely to click on the "apple realeases new ipods" link on cnn.com under the technology heading.

So I guess we should definatly be waiting until April for the long awaited iPod update. That sounds logical that when they release the music service, they will also release new iPods specifically designed to work seamlessly with it.

BTW: Does anyone have an idea at the specs for the up-comming iPods? Will there be a price drop on current models to make room for larger GB models later on? Will it have a color screen with QuickTime playback? Should we just wait and see?

They should be pumping out cheap iPods, not holding them back because of demand....

people want a cheap iPod, and they want them now!

so, what? we have to wait for stuff? I want my presents now! NOW!

    yet, we should chill

Okay, RosettaStoned, I see where you're going with the whole LoudEye thing. I'm wondering if you've got an inside track, or if it's just a guess. If it's a guess it's probably a good one. Loudeye was the company that Napster used to 'fingerprint' MP3s when it was trying to go commercial a few years ago. Apple and Loudeye have worked together before, and Loudeye currently works closely with some big labels, including Virgin and Sony.

Oh, and this month Loudeye announced a new Chairman of the Board; Anthony J. Bay. If that name sounds familiar it's because he worked at Apple back in the 80s.

Chances for the new iPods will greatly increase for the 3 weeks after April 8th when the Music Service is announced.

I don't think that is what Rosetta was saying...

"Starting April 8th, the chances for iPods/music service increase significantly over the next three weeks. "

    My translation:

The chances for an iPod/music service announcement will begin to increase AFTER April 8th (as compared to said announcement being done in the weeks leading up to the 8th).
