How big is the performance bump on 512 to 1GB on iMac?

I have a iMac G5 with 512 RAM and I am considering a jump to 1,024...any idea how much this will boost speed?

Has anyone done benchmarking tests on this?

Thanks.

I can't really comment on jumping from 512mb to 1gb, but the performance increase I got from jumping from 256mb to 1gb was staggering.

I've not been a mac user very long but the general rule of thumb seems to be 1gb or more.

Thanks Alasdair for your comments. I will probably upgrade.

    Anyone else have view?

I wouldn't go by just my word, it really does depend on what you're doing.

If you surf, chat, e-mail and listen to music then 512mb will probably suffice. If you use a lot of multimedia stuff such as iPhoto, iMovie, etc. then 1gb may give you that little bit extra.

I work with large Excel sheets and use iPhoto heavily. I like a zippy Mac also.
