ipod not recognised

all of a sudden itunes will not recognise by ipod when its plugged in. I have restarted multiple times, switched between usb and firewire in all possible ports and reinstalled itunes. ipod reads "do not disconnect"
im going on vacation in a few hours and dont have my new music so i am dying for help.
i have searched google and the forums and havent found anything. apple support site doesnt help either.
ipod plays perfectly, i didnt drop it, 100% battery
