How about 1.67GHz, X600 graphics, FW800, and it replaces 12" PB. Apple could ask near 15" PB prices and people would still buy. It wouldn't surpass other PB's, just reach them, an a very compelling package. Exactly what I'd get did I not already have a perfectly good, January model iBook.
Gonna be interesting to see if they will actually manage to put the camera in laptop lids somehow. Has anyone read that patent application?
I don't actually expect to see any case changes before Intel though...
It may seem that many are waiting for Intel chips to reside in Macs before they buy upgrades (myself included). Knowing that Leopard will be a part of that transition and knowing that Apple loves innovation, what are the possibilities of significant changes to the appearance of the current product line to further entice fence-sitting buyers to purchase a 1st gen Intel-based Mac? While this thread shows a black PB, would it not be more likely that Jonathan Ive and crew would create something visually different from the current PB beyond a color change, or slight measurement changes?
And it screams "pro" in that dead black, no use for frills, CIA clandestine-ops sort of way.
With a few little Apple touches I think people would stampede to get them.
I agree. I think many people are turned off from black because that is the color used by almost all the PC manufacturers.
That having been said, the black iPod looks fantastic (and in the case of the nano, the black looks better than the white in my opinion).
On the other hand, the glossy black coat is VERY easily scratchable (back to the black nano).
Also bear in mind that Apple will somehow want to differentiate between the pro lines and the consumer lines, and right now, I like the metal in the pro lines vs: the plastic of the consumer lines.
Whatever they decide, you can be sure it will look good.
Black!? Who the flip cares. I want a touch-screen LCD that swivels around to make the PowerBook in to a tablet.
A Blue Dalmation PowerBook would be pretty cool though eh guys?
Black would be nice it would look less dirty than my poor aluminum 'book. I have to fastidiously clean it. My girlfriend picks on me because it's dirty. Her 12" 'Book is perfectly clean of course. Puts mine to shame.
Some cool anodized colors might be nice if done right.
Well...here's the new leaked image of the intel-pb...sexy isn't it? mmm...beige...I don't think there are many beige laptops on the market today...or many that bulky... Ah well, so much for Apple fading into the background.

this is pro hardware not a Luna Park
NO NO NOOOoooooo
I was thinking about the possibility of a black powerbook . . . but I'm not sure Apple would fracture the Pro line's color theme.
(obviously powermacs could be updated too, but I dont see displays being updated yet)
maybe not black but some kind of gunmetal

Too bad this isn't what we got! As it stands, I think Steve just left me with $2500 to spend on home theater gear...

Yea like, what the heck? Didn't they ever hear of 16 bit editing? Duh!
Anyways, I would get one. I am in need of a newish laptop and I perfer something that doesn't say "look at me" all over.
then I suggest a DELL
apple is starting to scream "look at me"
there needs to be a black apple laptop with a smaller apple sign.

maybe the light for the apple logo could be darker somehow...personally, I don't see any problem with the design.
It's the look of most pro rack-mount audio gear (and the racks themselves, for that matter), and it is:
Durable (doesn't scratch). Doesn't show finger marks. Cleans easily. Minimizes annoying reflections.
And it screams "pro" in that dead black, no use for frills, CIA clandestine-ops sort of way.

just look at the black ipods
it's outselling the white like crazy right now

Black anodized aluminum. With a slightly matte finish.

Maybe on your GF's ibook, but definately no touch screen on your powerbook.

Looks like a blocky G3 Powerbook.
