Developers receive two Mac OS X 10.4.4 pre-releases
Apple Developer Connection members have received the first pre-release builds of Mac OS X 10.4.4, the next in a series of maintenance updates to Apple Computer's Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" operating system, according to sources and several reports already present on the Internet.
To date, developers have reported receiving two builds of the 26 megabyte update, the first of which arrived on Monday -- about a week earlier than originally anticipated.
In that build, labeled Mac OS X 10.4.4 build 8G7, tipsters say Apple listed over two-dozen fixes and enhancements that had been added to the OS since the release of Mac OS X 10.4.3. Developers were asked to focus their testing efforts on those areas, which included: Bezel Services, CoreAudio, DVD Player, Quartz, Software Update, and Video Conferencing.
Sources said changes to Quartz Composer, a development tool provided with Mac OS X v10.4 for processing and rendering graphical data, accounted for nearly half of the bug fixes and enhancements listed in build 8G7. Meanwhile, other improvements targeted iMovie, Sync Services, GarageBand, and CoreImage, they said.
In a followup seed, released on Wednesday evening, Apple reportedly asked developers to shift their testing focus to I/O-related solutions such as USB, FireWire, Bluetooth and Firewall. Developers were also diagnose problems with Safari and .Mac iDisk RSS Synching.
The second build was labeled OS X 10.4.4 build 8G9, and included just one known issue. In a set of notes accompanying the build, Apple reportedly told developers that Mac OS X 10.4.4 so far included over 40 areas of change since the release of Mac OS X 10.4.3.
It's believed that Mac OS X 10.4.4 is on a development scheduled similar to those that have had their seeding process begin in mid November and end around the second week of December.

If they don't I'm seriously going to have to consider getting a Dell Quad-Slot Toaster with Windows KE (Kitchen Edition).
Single are bad for toasting, because you can only toast one face, with dual you should be able to toast the 2 faces of your toast.
With the quad, you should also be able to roast a chicken 8)

With Thanksgiving just a week away would a quad ship in time to allow me to use it to make my turkey?

Why go through all that trouble and not even mention the new/confirmed product announcement that's between the lines?
Why do you think that more Tiger bug fixes are related to a new product announcement?
Given the reported size of this patch, I assure you it does not contain Intel code to run the rumored iBooks in January. That will be another release.

Well, when 'bug fixes' arise, sometimes people assume that is 'Apple code word' for 'fixing endian issues in respects to MacOS X PPC and x86'.
I for one doubt an iBook in January; Apple need a big player to come out on stage, to not only stand side by side with Steve but to also say at the same time that the piece of hardware ships, that they'll ship their x86 version of their Mac product.
Apple need a software company to champion their hardware - Could it be Adobe? well, according to them, it'll be atleast the end of next year before signs of an x86 version of Creative Suite appears. What about Microsoft? could be, but then again, they seem to be rather dead in terms of develoment - would it kill them to finally update their MSN Messenger so that it was feature for feature equal to that of the Windows version?
MacOS PowerPC is still buggy; 10.4.3 fixed up ALOT of problems, but at the same time, 10.4.4 will probably bet the icing on the cake for MacOS X 10.4 until they release an x86 box, at which time, they'll probably release a 10.4.5 update - so 10.4.4 will have to last, at the most 7 months before an update rolls around.

It's not x86. Go read the release notes again. That's all I can say until January.
