Genentech's stuff runs faster because it is first written with macs in mind, and the pc stuff is an afterthought. I use two mac with Logic Audio, but look at how the <a href="http://www.digitalnaturalsound.com/logic_dsp/perform.shtml"; target="_blank">performance is lacking compared to pc cpus Macs have the potential to be more powerful, but not enough software is written to utilize the g4 properly.

I work in the IT field for a bio-med company and I can tell you a REALLY good reason to stay: support costs. They're MUCH lower on Macs than they are on PCs, trust me, and they're even lower in OS X. Truth be told, you sound bitter at what Apple doesn't have as far as hardware is concerned that you're totally missing all the of good points: ease of use, lower support costs, and greater reliability being some of them (multiplied to the nth degree when running OS X). It makes me laugh that you want to switch to PCs for your business for 'costs' reasons, when you don't have a clue as far as the real costs are concerned. (Not flaming you, working in IT with many platforms, predominately Macs, has made me wise to those 'cost' arguements.)

and lets not forget hack attempts, security issues, and foremost, viruses. PCs excel at that stuff.

Also, seeing that fewer people will properly know how a Mac works, you will see productivity go up. If you fool around with computers and install lots of crap on it, they will start to fubar. With a Mac you will have people actually working instead of worrying about their dang computer.

Go Mac... you'll never go back

people wake up and smell reality i use a G4 cube on apps like Strata3DPlus, Create, Photoshop, iMovie, some games(not fps intensive), coldstone, VPC5, audio, vid chat, icongrapher, and mactv, my benchmarks: 3bil instructions, typical, 8sec to excecute this is plenty fast for most consumers and me, don't know about you

You are not a creative professional. Therefore Apple does not care about you, and neither do I.

If the Mac platform does not increase your workflow, then buy a 3Ghz PC. While you are configuring drivers, and getting lost in the registry, I will be using AltiVec-enhanced applications to view DV effects in real time and I will cut through PSD files like a hot knife through butter.

    Shove off PC wanker.

This is a typical reaction from an idiot; it is irrational, illogical, and emotional. Completely devoid of facts or any evident experience.

Here we go again! Mac users come up with a million excuses why macs run soooo slow! The truth is that mac users have been snow jobbed about the so called faster then this faster than that G4, G3! And what gets me is that ya's all believe that balony Steve puts out! And every time there's a bench mark speed test the mac fails miserably! And look at the prices of the machines! It's called the Mac gullible!!!!!!!!!!

    rbald...

What you say is not without merit, but the fact that you waste your time posting it on an Apple forum like AI is suspect, to say the least.

You castigate the "Mac faithful" for swallowing what Steve says, and Apple for overpricing slow machines. If you don't consider yourself one of the Mac gullible (and since you qualify those who are as "ya'll") then you must be on a more discerning plane, from which you dispense your wisdom.

A couple of questions: what kind of Mac does a non-gullible person like you own, if you actually do? And WHY? If you don't own one, go away. And if you own a Mac and think it gives you the right to personally attack Mac owners (the Mac gullible), remember there are lots of people who make decisions about computer buying for reasons other than speed tests and despite price. Design and usability come to mind. If you're not one of THEM or one of the gullible, then what are you and why waste time on this forum?

I agree with rbald. The speed of macs is pathetic. Let me tell you why I use a mac. Because there was a time where the Mac was the superior computer. I keep buying them now hoping that at least SOME of what Steve says is true, which it's not.

I mean who pushes around 500mb - 1gig files in photoshop on a regular basis?

I do,when I do digital printing. The reason the iMac wasn't faster is because it was using virtual memory.Photoshop uses a memory space of about 1.1-1.5 GB for a 500 MB file.

And by the way-Altivec rules, the speed boosts it offers are real, and very amazing. The slowness in rendering and gaming are video card issues, which must be and are being fixed.
